BACHELOR contestant Megan Marx says she’s devastated by revelations that naked photos of her are being circulated.
A photo of the 31-year-old asleep naked was taken without her consent earlier this year, and has been doing the rounds in Sydney, Melbourne and her native Western Australia since her rise to prominence on the show.
It is a criminal offence in Western Australia to photograph someone naked without their consent, and can land the perpetrator with a $5,000 fine or 12 months behind bars.
“Obviously, if someone’s taken (naked) pictures of you sleeping it’s incredibly weird and creepy and inappropriate,” said Marx, who was raised in a strict religious order and married at 18.
“It just shows that you don’t ever fully know anybody, it’s quite horrific.”
A phone call from The Daily Telegraph alerted Marx, who was an early frontrunner in the race to Richie Strahan’s heart before she quit the series, to the photo’s existence.
She is still considering how to proceed, but said she is thinking of taking the matter to the police.
“At this point, I’m still in a bit of shock. I haven’t even seen the photos myself,” she confessed.
Marx believes she knows who took the photograph and circulated it.
“From what I can gather it was someone that I cared quite a lot about who took them. It’s definitely a breach of my trust and my privacy.
“I have a pretty good idea of who it was, but I’ve had a couple of ex-boyfriends so I can’t confirm. I definitely don’t want to falsely accuse anybody,” she added.
Despite this massive breach of her trust, Marx said that it won’t change her approach to love and relationships.
“I think that sometimes me being so open-minded can mean things like this will happen. I’m not the kind of girl who would let a guy take naked pictures of me, even if it was a boyfriend.
Maybe the person had asked if they could take photos and I said no, or maybe they just waited for me to fall asleep, I don’t know,” she said.
Marx, who is back in her native Geraldton after leaving the show, said that she’s keen to keep a lid on her private life in the wake of the revelations and refused to comment on speculation that she and fellow contestant Tiffany Scanlon are dating.
“We’re kind of wanting to keep our private lives private,” she said.
