Meat pie from the servo: How down-to-earth Aussie pop princess celebrated her debut at number one

She looks like a pretty pink fairy, but down-to-earth Peach PRC is a force to be reckoned with. She catapulted up the charts with her debut EP. Then celebrated sat on the floor, with “a traveller beef, cheese and bacon”.

Pop princess Peach PRC is trying not to over-think the fact she is the number one artist in the country.

The 26-year-old is just the second Australian artist to top the ARIA Album Chart in 2023 with her debut EP release, Manic Dream Pixie, while 11 internationals have hit number one, including superstars Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Sam Smith and Metallica.

“If I think about it too much, I start to spiral,” Peach PRC told The Daily Telegraph in an exclusive interview.

“I feel like I get a bit of impostor syndrome like I don’t deserve it.

“I am very grateful and elated about it but it is really surreal. I kind of live life like I am in a video game, this is all just so crazy.”

Peach PRC is the stage persona of Shaylee Curnow, a former stripper who dropped out of school in Year 10.

She has risen to international fame off the back of a huge TikTok following by sharing vulnerable and raw stories about her life.

Paris Hilton is a fan, as are Billie Eilish and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, and American rapper Rico Nasty.

She took her stage name from Princess Peach from the Mario computer game franchise and is known for her trademark head to toe fairy-like pink looks.

Peach PRC is currently touring the country, playing sell out shows and will perform at Sydney’s Metro Theatre May 13, 14 and 16.

“I think there is for sure an element of getting lucky in a lot of ways but I did have to put in work to get lucky if that makes sense,” she said.

“I am taking every day as it comes.”

The only other Australian artist to top the album chart this year is Cub Sport. Peach PRC was in her dressing room when she found out the news on Friday, beating out releases from the likes of Morgan Wallen, The Weeknd, SZA and Luke Combs.

“I celebrated with a pie from the servo and I sat on the floor with the laptop,” she said.

“It was very celebratory for me. I had a little vitamin water and a traveller beef, cheese and bacon pie. My team took me out for dinner later and that was really sweet, it was really nice.”
