The Bachelorette Episode 4 Recap: Snakes & Liars

JEWELLERY designer and animal lover Laura Byrne discusses The Bachelor finale and her plans with her very own Bachelor Matty J.

Q What’s life been like after The Bachelor for you and Matty J?

We’ve recently moved in together and it’s been awesome. The whole thing has been really easy because we gave ourselves a head start.

Prior to completely moving into his place, we split our time by living at his for four days and mine for three days a week.

We knew it wasn’t going to be a big deal but it’s been awesome. He’s already got everything decorated and laid out how he wants but we do have plans of buying some nice furniture together.

Q As someone who found love on the show, what did you think of the Honey Badger choosing no one?

It was certainly very entertaining for everyone to watch at home but, ultimately, I think that you can’t force things when it comes to matters of the heart.

If that’s how the Honey Badger was feeling then you just have to be genuine with yourself and accept that.

I think he made the right decision for himself, even if the viewers don’t feel like it was the right decision when they watched it happen. At the end of the day it’s his journey and he has to do what’s right for him.

Q What’s your advice to the new Bachelorette Ali about finding love on TV?

It is such a different situation to what I had experienced so I can’t say I’ve been there. But I would say don’t make a decision too early on in the show.

Some people take a little bit of time to come out of their shells and other people are just much more confident and comfortable straight off the bat. I think it’s best to take your time with it as on the show she has plenty of time.

Q What’s next for you and Matty?

Currently, we’re trying really hard to save up so that we can buy a place of our own. That’s the next step in the coming months.

I’ll get more say in the decor of the house we buy than where we rent. For us, we want to settle in our home first but we’re on the same page about getting married one day and having kids.

It’s all in the pipeline but we’re not sure when it’ll be.

Q What about your fur baby, Buster. Does he get along with Matty?

We’ve both just fit into his life. Although Matt won’t let me adopt another pet. It’s hard enough having one very large dog when we’re renting.

Q You’re a big advocate for pet adoption. What caused you to adopt Buster?

I’ve always been an animal lover. I was the one in our family to adopt animals in need. I would come home with pigeons and rabbits and anything else I found that needed a loving home.

At the time, Buster was being fostered by my next-door neighbour. It was only a couple of months after he had his operation to get his leg taken off.

I had no intention of getting a dog at the time but I just fell in love with him and ended up with a three-legged dog. That was three years ago.

Q You’ve just partnered with WholeHearted, a natural, grain-free dog food brand. What prompted that?

Buster was the main reason. I got behind the brand because it was really well aligned with my relationship with him.

He’s a part of our family and I take just as good care of his health and what he eats as I do my own.

They’re doing a great job and will also be donating a thousand dollars worth of pet food to the rescue foundation I adopted Buster from. It’s amazing.

Q Do you have any acting plans like other former Bachelor contestants?

Not at all! I love the life that I have created with Matt, Buster and my jewellery label. That’s my focus; I’m really settled with what I do. I don’t have any plans for a career change anytime soon.

Q Would you do reality TV again?

I keep on joking with Matt that Survivor is the only show that I would do. But he tells me that I could never survive on beans and rice.

In all seriousness, I’ve had my time with reality TV. I got lucky once so I don’t think I want to try and repeat that. We’re really happy with where things are at the moment.

Q What’s next for you professionally?

I’ve just started working on engagement jewellery and it’s so exciting to be a part of other people’s love stories.

When grooms come in and try to create that perfect ring for their girl, it’s a really sweet process.
