KIIS radio co-host Kyle Sandilands has revealed the celebrity guest who gave him the “worst” birthday present at his star-studded 50th birthday bash.
Sandilands celebrated in style aboard a $3000-per-hour superyacht on Sydney Harbour on Saturday night and claims one particular guest arrived with a gift so “cheap”, he threw it overboard into the harbour.
“Ben Fordham came on-board and he wanted to give me his gift early,” Sandilands said on the Kyle and Jackie O show on Tuesday.
“Ben presented the present which was a terribly cheap Casio watch from 1988. So I’ve looked at it and he’s written a note, (it read) ‘You’ve probably got a few watches but here’s your favourite’.
“I’m looking at the watch and I thought, ‘This is s**t’.”
Sandilands said he was so appalled by Fordham’s present that he got it rid of it on the spot.
“Obviously a gag present and he’s looking at me with that cheeky Ben Fordham face, you know how he thinks he’s pretty cool? I just looked at the present and I just (threw) it overboard,” he said.
“You should’ve seen him, ‘Excuse me? Excuse me?’ And then I just turned and walked off and my brother was laughing in his face.
“So if you want a 1988 Casio watch, it’s probably at the bottom of the Harbour somewhere near the Taronga Zoo. It’s probably the worst present that anyone bought, thank you Ben for very small effort.”
But Fordham later watered down the comments from Kyle.
“Kyle has got an active imagination,” Fordham told the Daily Telegraph.
“He didn’t throw the watch overboard. He pretended to throw it overboard.
“It ended up on the present pile with all the other expensive stuff he requested.
“Personally, I was only prepared to fork out $8 on a stopwatch that would have been worth at least $30 when it was first released in the 1980s. If he really threw it overboard, I wouldn’t have blamed him. I bought it at a garage sale.”
The shock jock said Today host Karl Stefanovic gave him one of the best gifts.
“[Karl] Stefanovic showed up to my house later on and he gave a gorgeous gift,” Sandilands said.
“I can’t remember what it was, it was heavy and in a Hermes bag but I haven’t actually opened it yet. You can tell by the weight of it that it was decent.”
Guests at Sandilands’ bash included his KIIS co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, singer Guy Sebastian and Sunrise boss Michael Pell.
