RADIO listeners fist pumping at the ratings slide of KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O Show need to understand that the controversial duo aren’t going anywhere for one major reason.

The simple fact is that Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson are scathing and whether you love it or hate it — scandal rates.

The pair may have dropped in ratings by 2.1 points since the last survey taken back at the end of 2017, but one of the main reasons for this is that they started 2018 significantly later than all the other major FM breakfast shows.

Call it the Married-At-First-Sight trainwreck of radio if you wish, but Sandilands and Henderson’s capabilities to ask about sex and viral scandals are not matched by their competitors.

Also, particularly for Sandilands, intimate details of his life are not off limits. The shock jock is exposed and recalls secrets, which most of us would take to our deathbeds.

Just yesterday, he explained how the verbal abuse between he and his model girlfriend, Imogen Anthony, 26, hits boiling point.

Sandilands described a moment when she yelled, “Stop crying you fat c***” in a candid interview with Married At First Sight bride Charlene Perera yesterday.

He even throws his mates under the bus after taking a swipe Today host Karl Stefanovic’s relationship with Jasmine Yarbrough, calling the Nine star “p*ssy whipped,” in January.

Yes, this says a lot about Sandilands but the guy knows what rates.

The same goes for 2GB’s Alan Jones, who is unafraid of causing debate, after he made even more headway over his competitors.

He picked up a large chunk of listeners with a nearly 15 per cent increase in audience numbers, up 2.2 points.

In contrast, the 2DayFM Em, Grant & Ed Show with Ed Kavalee, Em Rusciano and Grant Denyer kicked off a week earlier than most major breakfast shows and six days before the first survey for the year, which no doubt helped in grabbing a bigger audience.

Feedback was few and far between for the new show, which is the fifth line-up to arrive on the Hit Network in Sydney since the departure of Kyle and Jackie O in 2013.

And although the trio made a leap in the latest radio survey, the show had suffered its lowest ratings result in December since Em Rusciano and Ed Kavalee took over the gig in January, snatching just a 2.9 per cent share of the market at the time.

The only hope the program has is Denyer reflecting on his time on Sunrise and even then it’s just a handful of stories from a has-been Channel 7 weatherman.

Rusciano, Kavalee and Denyer are the newest team on the cursed 2Day FM brekky show as Austereo struggled to sign a ratings success following Kyle and Jackie O’s defection.

Since then, there has been a revolving door of hosts which has included Sophie Monk, Jules Lund, Merrick Watts, Maz Comption, Dan Debuf, Rove McManus and Sam Frost.

For the Kyle and Jackie O Show, the competition between their KIIS FM program and 2Day FM’s is virtually incomparable.

In other ratings, Ray Hadley on 2GB continues to dominate the Morning segment while Kate, Tim and Marty’s Nova show maintained its title of top show for the drive home.
