KARL Stefanovic’s wife Cassandra Thorburn has broken her silence on her separation from the breakfast TV host in an explosive rant.
Almost a month after the pair’s split, she has commented publicly for the first time, revealing the impact his job had on their family and claiming her role in his success.
Just days after Stefanovic had a dig at his estranged wife live on air, Thorburn penned a tirade on Facebook in which she opened up about the toll Stefanovic’s job had taken on her and their children.
Thorburn’s comments began with a dig at the Today Show’s terrible record in the ratings compared with rival Sunrise. “Apparently Today Show finally won a year,” she said. “This took a huge toll on my family and I, and I’m congratulating myself today for all the effort that went into making that (the ratings) happen.”
Thorburn went on to explain her role behind the scenes as Stefanovic’s partner.
“The suggestions, the story ideas, the constant counselling of questions for years,” she said. “I’m giving myself a pat on the back tonight, as I know many people will also know how much effort I put into it.”
She went on to explain that she was enjoying a bottle of wine that was sent to her from her estranged husband’s manager. “Found a lovely tipple to cheers myself. Thanks for the red Sharon Finnigan SF Celebrity Management,” she said.
Her explosive online rant came as Channel 9 and Channel 7 feud about ratings, with Nine claiming to have won the year and Seven disputing the win. Stefanovic and the Today Show team celebrated their 2016 ratings at a party at Richard Wilkins’ lavish Sydney pad.
On Saturday Channel 9 claimed to have won the year’s ratings, but Seven quickly responded claiming Nine’s alleged win included audiences only in the major cities, ignoring regional viewers.
After 21 years together, news of Stefanovic and Thorburn’s split broke last month. Both have remained quiet on the breakup until now.
