A first of its kind is travelling to Sydney, meaning Australians will come as close as livingly possible to the world of dinosaurs thanks to cutting edge animatronics.

Jurassic World The Exhibition will open at Sydney Showground in September.

It comes on the 30th anniversary of the first Jurassic Park film release that saw the franchise become one of the biggest in Hollywood history.

“We are able to make the dinosaurs lifelike,” Kurt Baker of global immersive experience leader, NEON, told The Daily Telegraph.

“This is the closest you are going to come to an actual living dinosaur because they don’t exist on the planet anymore. We build them to scale from everything that we know about the size and skin texture, everything, even the eyes are made to look real. The eye blinks, the hydraulics and robotics, is all done to mimic what it would have been like.”

The exhibition will open at Sydney’s Olympic Park on September 22 for a limited run at the newly reimagined 3000 square metre SuperLuna Pavilion.

It will see ticket holders explore ‘Jurassic World’ as they enter the gates of the site to explore jungle environments and life-sized dino’s like brachiosaurus, velociraptors and the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex.

“It is a mix of animatronics, robotics and in-world experience and you really feel like you are being transported to Isla Nublar,” Baker said.

“You are part of the Jurassic experience and world, and, it is dinosaurs. Kids, adults, grandparents, everyone loves dinosaurs so for whatever reason, everyone seems to connect with it.”

There’s also baby dinosaurs, including ‘Bumpy’ the Ankylosaurus from the animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.

The Daily Telegraph was treated to a first hand experience of the exhibition in Atlanta, Georgia, where on any given day up to 4800 punters go through the doors.

Sydney is the 17th stop on the Jurassic World tour with previous stops including London, Shanghai, Toronto and Cologne. There are plans for the exhibition to travel Australia after the Sydney season.

“There is nothing else out there to this scale with this technology, it is pretty much the most technologically advanced show-control system there is at this point,” Michael Mattox, of robotics and animatronics company, ANIMAX, explained.

“We have several dinosaurs in the exhibition, ranging from tiny hatchlings to a life size T-Rex and we use a variety of technology inside of that to link everything together so it is as lifelike as possible so that you forget you are in an exhibition and you are really immersed in Isla Nubar itself.”

Mattox added: “I hope people walk away with awe and wonder and basically forget what they are doing. When someone walks into the exhibition and they start through the process, they kind of know they are looking at animatronics or puppets or whatever the technology is but then they get to the point that they kind of forget what it is and they start living in the experience and enjoying what is happening around them.”
