Sydney influencer Kishama Meridian is very clear on her boundaries.
Endorsing alcohol is off limits, as is wearing skimpy clothing as Meridian labels herself a ‘modest’ digital creator.
“There are a lot of different people in the world with different beliefs so it is nice to see representation fro all kinds of people online,” Meridian told The Daily Telegraph.
“It is good for young people to have someone to look up to that align with their beliefs, that is important.”
Meridian, 23, has seen both sides of ‘influencing’.
She converted to Islam over the past couple of years and explored the less modest side of the business before finding her faith.
“For me it was a bit different, I was doing the whole bikini photos – northern beaches lifestyle, which is where I have grown up,” she explained.
“Drinking and all that but now it is very much more wholesome. I think that when I converted it was a little bit of a shock to people because I didn’t talk about my journey until it happened.”
Meridian found her faith at a time when she was “living life with no purpose”.
“I was in such a bad place in my life, drinking to excess, going out and often feeling depressed,” she said.
“I was searching for something to fill that void for me and to give me meaning.”
Finding that purpose and clear direction as a content creator has helped her grow her following to just under 400,000 followers on Instagram alone.
She is represented by influencer agency, MaxConnectors.
At Fashion Week in Sydney in May, Meridian was front row as Asiyam debuted as the first all-modest fashion show in Australia.
“I won’t do anything that doesn’t align with my beliefs, so promoting alcohol is a no no, doing anything that compromises my modesty and how I feel comfortable inside,” she said.
“I like to take on every opportunity I can within my beliefs.”
