The public fallout continues for Sydney influencer Jade Tuncdoruk, who now risks losing thousands of dollars in lucrative partnerships and sponsorships with big name brands after going viral last week for all the wrong reasons.
Confectionery company Cadbury Australia is now distancing itself from Tuncdoruk, who is an ambassador for the brand, as a spokesman told Confidential that the company is reviewing their partnership amid her latest controversies.
“The views expressed don’t reflect our values and we’re reviewing our relationship with this influencer,” a Cadbury spokesman said.
Tuncdoruk, who is signed to influencer agency Maxconnectors, regularly promotes luxury brands like Prada, Louis Vuitton and Yves Saint Laurent on social media, however it’s unclear whether these partnerships will continue.
The content creator promoted Cadbury in a sponsored post for its Caramilk ice-cream as recently as last month however the partnership is now up in the air.
Branding expert, Nicole Reaney, of InsideOut PR said brands may feel pressured to cut ties with influencers when scandals arise.
“Brands are held responsible for the relationships they maintain. It is certainly dangerous territory for agencies and brands to stand by influencers who demonstrate attitudes and behaviours that do not align with their own values,” said Reaney.
“Influencers are exactly that, they are influential and any positive or negative reactions will reflect on brands associated with the individual.
“Despite social media existing for decades, this is still very much a lesson, many people are still learning. Take a step back before you post and consider every impact your message could have.”
On Sunday, the influencer, who boasts nearly half a million Instagram followers, apologised for a second time for offensive comments she made about non-English speaking Uber Eats drivers in 2017.
“Hello everyone. I just wanted to say that I’m sorry for the way I’ve conducted myself recently,” she wrote on Instagram.
“I’m aware that my actions were poorly thought out and lack integrity. I want everyone to know that I hold myself to a higher standard than this.
“I’ve made it my priority to re-evaluate the aspects of my life that may have lead to the disconnect between my soul and my actions. I am sorry to anyone I’ve let down, including myself.”
It comes after her Uber Eats rant resurfaced on social media recently, in which she branded foreign workers “annoying”.
“I order off you guys all the time and I’m starting to find it really annoying that you have so many non-English speaking delivery people who can’t follow basic delivery instructions,” Jade wrote. “I got a notification today saying my food was arriving and it took the person a further 20 mins to get to my door because he didn’t read my delivery instructions properly and when I called him to explain he didn’t understand a word I was saying.
“Your GPS is consistently sending drivers to the wrong address which I’ve explained in my instructions which most people read and have no problem with but when foreigners are delivering it takes twice as long for me to receive my then cold food. Sort it out.”
More recently, she was accused of pressuring a small business into giving her a refund by blasting them on social media.
Tuncdoruk used social media to pressure holiday rental company Weekenda into refunding a $2000 deposit in full after her wedding was postponed. She included a link to the small business’s page, which prompted some of her followers to lash out at the company.
In an Instagram post, the business accused Tuncdoruk of entitled behaviour by trying to “bypass” the rules when she ignored the terms and conditions.
