It’s New York Fashion Week, but you could be at Bondi

NEW York is currently hosting Fashion Week, one of the world’s premier fashion festivals, but given the number of Aussies taking part, fashionistas could think they were at Bondi Beach.

Newcastle teenager Aleyna Fitzgerald, who won the latest season of Australia’s Next Top Model, is making quite a name for herself internationally.

The 18-year-old strutted her stuff on the catwalk for red-carpet favourite Tadashi Shoji and Brock Collection yesterday, with ’80s supermodel Cindy Crawford sitting front row at the latter.

This follows her appearances at Paris Fashion Week in July.

“It’s been a crazy year for me,” Fitzgerald told this week’s BW Magazine, the cover of which she graces. “I pinch myself every day that I am doing this.”

However Aussie models were not the only ones ruling the runway.

Sydney-based hairstylist Anthony Nader was brought over to work with fashion royalty.

The creative director of RAW hair salon tended the locks of Kendall Jenner during the Tom Ford show on Wednesday.

“Kendall was super nice, despite all the photographers’ lenses in her face while getting glammed up,” said Nader, who will also work on the Michael Kors and Oscar de la Renta parades.

“Working on a model of this calibre and a show like this is always mind blowing to me, even after all my years of being backstage.”

Finally, Australian designers Dion Lee and Zimmermann are also showing.

Sydney-based Zimmermann already has a huge following in the US, with Paris Jackson, Chrissy Teigen and Beyonce all fans of its feminine dresses.

Meanwhile, Gold Coast label Peony swimwear will showcase its wares to the world’s top fashion buyers on the sidelines of New York Fashion Week.
