Coalition stoush over vaccine mandates threatens to derail PM's political agenda

Influencer Tanja Gacic is ruffling feathers in the fashion industry with her anti-vax views.

The outspoken blogger shared a series of posts over the weekend supporting “freedom protests” against lockdown and vaccine mandates.

She attended a rally in Sydney, labelling herself a “citizen journalist” and strangely slammed the very media that she has mercilessly courted throughout her career.

“I’m proud to be here, with the people, opposing totalitarian government overreach,” she wrote in one of several Instagram stories.

“I come from a line of anti fascist warriors – current state proposed legislation changes, obscuring and manipulation of data and information, media propaganda, Pfeizergate, ignoring and minimising human rights in courts and attempts at unprecedented emergency powers by some of our leaders are exactly how fascism operated. This is the hill I die on – democracy or bust.”

Gacic, who is a regular on the social scene and has been for many years, is represented by Chic Digital Creative. Representatives when contacted on Tuesday would not comment other than to say she remains with the agency despite her controversial views.

Confidential earlier this year contacted management and Gacic about her stance on vaccination after being contacted by several industry leaders notifying this column of her stance on the issue. At the time, Gacic stated that she was vaccinated.

This week, Gacic cited the Nuremberg Code in her argument for freedom.

“This is a hugely personal issue to me because many of my ancestors died to have these human rights enshrined into universal human law – codes like these transformed our societies from dictatorships and totalitarianisms into democracies. We cannot go back into darkness.”

With some 40,000 followers on Instagram, Gacic is the founder of the My Empirical Life blog. Her Instagram is littered with posts promoting brands including Bianca Spender, Outland Denim, The Upside, OPSM, Ginger and Smart, P.E. Nation, Herbal Essence, KITX and Alice McCall.

Two high profile publicity agents told Confidential they would no longer be working with Gacic based on her stance.

“If it’s #mybodymychoice then it’s always that, no matter what,” she wrote. “Bodily autonomy rights shouldn’t even be something up for discussion in the 21st century. I thought we learnt these lessons already people. Say it with me: Segregation and medical apartheid is never ok #unity #unityindiversity.”
