Erin Molan’s homicide detectic ex Sean Ogilvy is taking a central role in efforts to uncover William Tyrell’s remains.
The detective was spotted on Monday inspecting potential clues that had been dug out of the muddy bushland near the town of Kendall on the NSW mid north coast.
It is the first time Ogilvy has been pictured since he and 2 Day FM breakfast host Molan announced their split earlier this year.
Detective Ogilvy is one of the leading detectives in Strike force Rosann, which is tasked with finding out what happened to three year old William when he vanished in 2014.
Dozens of officers spent Monday clearing bushland and literally combing through the earth beneath to find any clue about William’s fate.
Detective Ogilvy trudged through the rain to the dig site to look over potential fragments before they were taken away to be tested by forensics.
The casually dressed Ogilvy was one of the very few members of the police operation not wearing either the Riot squad’s telltale blue jumpsuit or the high vis police raincoats.
Ogilvy and Molan meanwhile announced their split in September. They were engaged to be married and are parents to three-year-old daughter, Eliza.
In Stellar magazine at the weekend, Molan spoke of life as a single mum and said she felt “the best I’ve probably felt in my life”.
“I’m a 38-year-old single mum, but I actually feel sexier than ever,” she told the title. “And not just in a physical way. I feel really comfortable in my own skin. Maybe you’ve got to get all the bad sh*t out of the way in one fell swoop, and then you can just move on.”
Molan explained that she and Ogilvy were fiercely protective of their private life when they were together. The reason for that privacy was in large part due to Ogilvy’s job as a detective.
For that reason, and to put their daughter first, she won’t talk about the break-up now or in the future.
“We never did red carpets together or really do things publicly, so I can keep that private without being a hypocrite,” she said. “We also have a daughter who will read every single word written, so I certainly will never say a bad word or give any details into something very private. I won’t ever talk about the (relationship) breakdown.”
