‘I feel like a complete f**k up and I’m sorry’: Daniel Johns’ intimate insight into life in rehab

Former Silverchair frontman Daniel Johns has shared an emotional post about his recent rehab struggles as questions are raised about his upcoming album release.

Questions are being raised as to whether troubled muso Daniel Johns will have his FutureNever album ready for the April 22 release date following his unexpected stint in rehab.

The date has already been pushed back once and on Saturday in an Instagram post on his account, the popular singer revealed he was abusing alcohol to numb deep psychological issues.

“I’ll be doing my best to support the April 22 release while I continue this long road of healing – some days are better than others,” his social media administrator wrote on his behalf.

Johns has been keeping his 100,000 social media followers up to date with his rehabilitation progress and the status of his hugely anticipated album while in rehab.

It is believed to be Johns who has insisted his team, which includes global music giant BMG, forge ahead with the April 22 release date in a bid to give him direction while he seeks treatment for his mental health issues.

His agent on Saturday reiterated there were no plans to cancel or postpone the FutureNever album launch.

“The album is 100 per cent not getting pushed back,” Trent Titmarsh said.

“The release date will be April 22 as planned. No issues for anyone who has pre-ordered it.”

He did not clarify whether it was Johns or music label BMG who had received the funds from pre-sales.

An industry source said if the album were to be delayed further or not be released, purchases – which range between $20.99 and $400 – would be refunded.

“If you enter a pre-sale agreement with someone, that is a contract,” they said.

“So if you then change the date, you either have to offer a refund. You are obliged legally to give them the option to get a refund. And if it doesn’t happen, they are entitled to a refund.”

Johns’ Instagram post on Saturday was among his most raw, with the 42-year-old saying he felt like a “complete f**k up”.

My drinking had become a bigger problem than I had even realised, and how I have used it to help numb a range of deeper psychological issues that I have been living with since my childhood,” the Instagram message read.

“Some of those issues you know, and a lot cut much deeper. Alcohol is no medicine.

“I never should have treated it like it was. I feel like a complete f**k up and I’m sorry. I take full responsibility for my actions on the evening of March 23rd.”

Johns has pleaded guilty to being three times over the legal limit when his car crossed to the wrong side of the road and crashed into a van in the NSW Hunter Region last month.

According to a police statement, Johns was charged with high-range drink-driving after the collision with the vehicle.

The report stated that Johns had been driving an SUV northbound on the Pacific Hwy when his car collided with another vehicle travelling southbound.

A roadside breath test conducted by attending paramedics returned a positive result.

He was arrested and taken to Raymond Terrace police station where he underwent a secondary breath analysis which returned a reading of 0.157.

In an Instagram post late last month Johns addressed the ongoing management of his mental health.

“As you know, my mental health is a work in progress. I have good days and bad days but it’s something I always have to manage.”

Johns said that over the last week, he began to experience panic attacks. He continued: “Last night I got lost while driving and I was in an accident. I am ok, everyone is ok.”

Besides being in therapy, Johns said that he has “been self-medicating with alcohol to deal with my PTSD, anxiety and depression”.

He added: “I know this is not sustainable or healthy.”

While Johns’ March statement was received with supportive comments from fans and friends, including Natalie Imbruglia, who was married to Johns from 2003 to 2008, today’s Instagram post had messages turned off.
