George Burgess is doing his best to stay match fit in hotel quarantine.
The expat Brit is into his final week of two weeks of mandatory hotel quarantine after flying in to Sydney from the UK, where he has been playing for the Wigan Warriors.
The 29-year-old former Rabbitohs Premiership star has signed on to play for the St George Illawarra Dragons.
“The Dragons staff have kindly put together a structured program for my two weeks, including various movement/strength/aerobic sessions,” Burgess said.
Burgess shared a series of images to the website blog of clothing brand 4B Label, which he runs with brothers Thomas, Luke and Sam.
He is in quarantine with four-year-old son Boston while wife Joanna and their other two kids, Birdie and Blainey, are in another Sydney hotel quarantining.
Running through a series of quick-fire questions, Burgess said he had musicians the Teskey Brothers on repeat while oranges were his snack of the day and he has been bingeing the Olympics on television.
His motivation is “getting fit to hit the ground running for November NRL pre season while he wished he had “Jo and the girls with us”.
Burgess’s quarantine advice was to stick to a routine.
“It is hard not being able to get out and let Boston have a run around,” he said.
Burgess has set up gym equipment on the hotel balcony, including kettle bells and an exercise bike.
“I am just trying to keep him (Boston) busy with his toys and his drawing and colouring that nanny dropped off for us,” he said.
“Also he will watch stuff on TV while I am training.”
The first thing Burgess will do once released from quarantine will be to see his family.
Burgess underwent hip surgery several months ago and will add to the Dragons’ forward stocks after they sacked prop Paul Vaughan over that now infamous Covid-breaching team barbecue earlier this month. He is back in Australia indefinitely.
“I have signed with dragons until the end of 2023 so we will see what happens,” he said. “Hopefully (I’ll) bounce back to my best after the recent surgery by getting super fit again and playing good footy.”
