Home and Away cast and crew rally around co-star Jessica Redmayne

Jessica Redmayne's cast and crew from Home and Away have joined her in support of a cause close to her heart following the death of her mother from dementia.

Cast and crew of Home and Away rallied in support of actor Jessica Redmayne with an early Sunday morning start.

The likes of Ethan Browne, Emily Weir, Juliet Godwin and Stephanie Panozzo were among those that turned up for the annual Memory Walk & Jog fundraising event at Cathy Freeman Park in Homebush.

“Despite it being an amazing cause, Jess is a radiant spirit and she really is just like a glue in our cast so it is a pleasure to be here for her,” Weir told Confidential.

“Members of my family have dementia. A lot of crew and cast here have also been personally affected in their families. Seven in 10 people are impacted by dementia in Australia, it is just crazy.”

Redmayne is an ambassador for Dementia Australia after losing her mum with early onset dementia in 2023, nine years after her diagnosis.

Her mother, Tina, was 70 when she died and had been showing signs of dementia from her mid-50s.

“We are like a family, we all support each other,” Browne, who plays Tane Parata on the top TV soap, said. “We love to do it. Getting up early is nothing new for me.”

From members of wardrobe to hair and makeup, around 30 cast and crew took part in the walk and jog. Other actors there included Ally Harris, Adam Rowland, Tristan Gorey and Ryan Bown.

“We are here for Jess, it is such a great cause, I’d run 50km for it,” Bown said.

Redmayne plays Harper Matheson on Home and Away.

Last week, speaking ahead of the event, she told Confidential she had undergone testing for the gene that causes dementia several years ago as part of a study at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

While she did the medical tests, Redmayne opted not to find out the results.

“It is a scary thing to think about,” she said.

“Because there is no cure, there would be no point in me knowing. You would hate to know that you had an expiry date if you were told that you were going to get sick in 10 years and that is it.

“I would just rather live not knowing and continue to live my life, because it would be a bit terrifying.”
