Unusual Facebook post from Sydney police station

An unusual Facebook post from a local police command caught our eye recently. A bit of digging has revealed what happened.

An unusual Facebook post by the good people at Sutherland Shire Police Area Command caught our eye recently, when they announced the usually bustling Sutherland Police Station was temporarily closed.

A bit of digging by the Unleashed news hounds has uncovered the unusual reason why.

It seems a contractor fixing up the roof used a sealant with particularly strong fumes, sparking safety concerns over the inhaling of fumes, and resulting in the whole station being evacuated so it could be aerated.

But that was not all!

We hear that Burwood Police Station was almost also evacuated last Wednesday, after a kitchen mishap.

The culprit? A well intentioned cop had taken the visiting child of a senior officer into the kitchen to make a bowl of popcorn, but after accidentally leaving it in the microwave a bit longer than required, they set off the station’s fire alarm.

Fortunately, there was no need for a crime scene or firefighters, and the inner west cops were soon back out on the beat.

Chart topping singer’s new beginning

Chart topping singer Dean Lewis has parted ways with his manager of more than nine years.

Confidential can reveal the Waves singer is no longer represented by respected industry veteran Leonie Conley, who, along with partner Robert, discovered him when handed a demo of his music on an industry boat cruise many years back.

In 2019, when Lewis became just the second songwriter to join the APRA AMCOS 1,000,000,000 List with his hit, Be Alright, he said of the Conleys: “They took a chance on me, and I was lucky with my career to fall into the right hands.”

It is the third major artist management split over the past year with Delta Goodrem parting ways with long-time aide Tina Kennedy and Guy Sebastian no longer repped by Jen Fontaine.

With the radical and fast-changing landscape under pressure and not one Australian artist in the top 50 on the main ARIA singles chart, Confidential wonders if artists are taking matters into their own hands.

Lewis, 37, meanwhile is nearing the end of his The Epilogue World Tour.

He was to play 35 shows across the United States and Canada but was forced to reschedule due to medical advice ahead of his performance at Royal Oak in Michigan last month.

Currently resting at home in LA, he is due to start performing again with a string of shows at summer festivals around the UK and Europe and is booked to perform at the Isle of White on June 20, followed by Dublin, Hanover, Halifax and finishing in Paris.

Two weeks ago, he shared a health update with fans.

“I’m devastated to share this but unfortunately I got another scope today and the ENT told me I have a nodule on my vocal cords and I can’t sing for another few weeks,” he wrote in a post on Instagram.

“We are working to find new dates for those shows, hold on to your tickets and we will alert everyone of the new schedule asap. I’m really sorry everyone. I know how disappointing this is.”

Sarah’s success on Woolies thinking

Single mum nutritionist Sarah Di Lorenzo is taking on the big players of the food game.

The best selling author has landed a major deal that will see her 10:10 protein bars sit alongside products from massive global food manufacturers at Woolworths supermarkets nationally.

It took months for the celebrity clinical nutritionist to broker the deal.

“I started this business with the passion to create the perfect protein bar in a market that I always found to be flawed,” Di Lorenzo told Confidential. “I never imagined this dream would come true and I still can’t, I’m pinching myself to see if this is real.”

Di Lorenzo is mum to three daughters, Charlotte, 22, Coco, 20, and Chloe, 15, raising them solo for the past 12 years. She has so far released six books, with a seventh, The Liver Repair Plan, to be published in June.

Back in town and in fashion

Fashion designer Amelia Mather is back in town.

Returning to Sydney after a couple of years based in Ibiza, Mather showed her first ever Fashion Week runway collection for Boteh and has just opened her flagship store in Bronte.

“It felt like the right moment to turn our focus homeward,” Mather told Confidential.

Mather is the former right-hand woman of Jodhi Meares and worked with some of our biggest labels before going out on her own with standout label, Boteh, a few years ago.

Having been based overseas, Boteh has so far made a bigger mark internationally than on home soil.

It is stocked at luxury department store Harrods in London and online with prestigious retailer Moda Operandi. The US is a huge market too.

Here, she has partnered with luxury outdoor furniture brand Belle Vie on a collection of prints that they unveiled at Fashion Week.

“It is an aesthetic I have been developing over a long time,” she explained.

“I studied textiles, I source, I collect, I am a fabrics girl. To me, the sillouhettes are really second to the fabric. I don’t do over-fussy designs because I like them to feel timeless. The fabric is the canvas.”

American celebrities too have taken to the brand.

Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey’s wife, Camila Alves, owns several pieces.

“And we’ve had a lot of pretty cool influencers and models also wearing it,” she said.

“Noone like a Beyonce or anything like that yet but we are trying to get there.”

Pollies beware the friendly fire

Politics is a cutthroat industry, with our pollies regularly stabbing each other in the back or shooting themselves in the foot.

So of course NSW parliamentarians thought it would be a wonderful idea to organise a day out at the shooting range, where a bunch of political enemies can fire a few friendly shots. What could possibly go wrong?

The Parliamentary Friends of Shooting and Outdoor Recreation co-chaired by regional independent MPs Roy Butler and Phil Donato has organised for interested politicians and their staff (licensed or not) to march down the Auburn shooting in June “for a fun and safe experience”.

Unleashed recommends that all MPs involved watch out for friendly fire.

This comes off the back of a workshop the Parliamentary Friends of Shooting had in May, helping MPs and their staff attain firearms licenses. They were also taught how to safely handle a gun. Thank God for small mercies.

Curtis is cooking up a set of abs

With a milestone birthday ahead of him, celebrity chef Curtis Stone is well on his way to achieving his ambitious goal of a six-pack by November.

Stone will celebrate his fifth decade on the fourth of that month and is working towards shedding a kilo a fortnight.

He has already lost 10kgs.

“I thought, why not get to 50 feeling super strong and powerful and ready to go into the next chapter,” he told Confidential.

“I want to be ripped. To be honest, for me boxing is a real craft. If I was just lifting weights, it would be more about how you look. I am more interested in becoming really good at that craft and that (six-pack) is the hopeful benefit.”

US-based Stone is back in Australia this week carrying out some work with Coles and Durapres, for which he recently launched a new kitchenware line.

Married to actor Lindsay Price, the couple have two sons together, Hudson, 13, and Emerson, 10.

He is training under the guidance of Justin Fortune at his LA gym, Fortune Gym

“He also trains Manny Pacquiao and Ryan Garcia but he doesn’t train me to be a fighter,” Stone told Confidential.

“It is a fighters gym, which is really cool because they are constantly doing camps and cutting weight for fights and whatever. I am super committed. I have always trained in there but I just have a different approach right now.”

A chance at second-hand celebrity

The wife of arguably Australia’s most famous DJ, podcaster Chloe Fisher, is clearing out her wardrobe and making a quick buck while she does it.

The mother of one, who is married to hugely successful Paul ‘Fisher’ Fisher, is selling everything from sneakers to clothes hangers on Facebook Marketplace.

It is all due to the fact the couple are selling their home after revealing they will move into the penthouse of $50 million skyscraper development at Palm Beach on the Gold Coast.

She’s priced white wooden timber clothes hangers at $1 a piece, but the catch is you have to buy a minimum of 10 and pick-up only at North Narrabeen.

Confidential checked out similar items online and Kmart is selling a 12 pack of wooding hangers for $10.

But … those hangers would not have sat in the wardrobe of the superstar couple’s multimillion-dollar home.

A pair of Converse All Star sneakers – “almost brand new” – is on the market for $80, a discount of $40 according to Fisher from online retailer The Iconic.

The most expensive item is a 690L Fisher & Paykel quad door fridge freezer combination that is just one year old and in “perfect condition”.

“Don’t need anymore as moving into new house,” she wrote on the item that has a half price tag of $2000.

It is located on the second floor of the couple’s house so if interested, “will need strong movers & wheely”.

A free 2.5 seat sofa was quickly snapped up.

“A few marks on it but could be cleaned/steamed or a throw over it,” she wrote. “Otherwise no rips or holes. Perfect for a man cave!”

A former pro surfer, DJ Fisher recently unveiled an artists impression of the luxury Gold Coast tower.

The eight story tower called Pescado, Spanish for fish, has six full-floor units plus a four-bed penthouse with its own rooftop terrace.

Of the project, he has said: “it’s a deeply personal project for us (because) we’re not just building this place and moving on; this is our forever home”.
