Hollywood actor Ruby Rose has fired back at former 2GB host Steve Price after he accused her of “flaunting her freedom” while millions of Aussies are stuck in lockdown.

The Pitch Perfect 3 star enjoyed a night out with former Neighbours actor, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, in New York on Saturday and they both shared photos on Instagram which Price, 66, claimed was tone deaf.

“Don’t you hate it when privileged Aussies flaunt their freedom while ordinary people are locked up losing their livelihoods and mental health sad lack of compassion,” he commented under Bassingthwaighte’s post.

He later added, “...Most if not all Australians are banned from leaving the country to see dying relatives grandkids or children getting married born ..getting back is harder currently only 300 a week let in 40,000 plus stranded off shore for 18 months plus ..that’s the real world.”

Rose, who moved to the US nearly 10 years ago, slammed The Project star’s comments as “horrible” and “mean”.

“This is such an awful horrible mean thing to write on someone’s page,” Rose replied.

“I think if you step back out of your obvious and understandable frustration, you will see both myself and Natalie care very much about mental health.

“I live In the states and have for almost a decade. I haven’t been home in years and I miss my family deeply. Natalie the kind and extremely compassionate person in this video is working, and soon, she can take back what she has been working on here for the Australian audiences.”

Rose, 35, explained that Bassingthwaighte had recently travelled from her home in Byron Bay to work on the Australian production of Jagged Little Pill.

“Broadway JUST opened up again 2 weeks ago here and people cried and celebrated everywhere, including the media,” she wrote.

“We need the arts, it’s imperative for people and their mental health. It creates jobs and will be something that brings a lot of joy for Aussie audiences.”

She added that while Price may be frustrated with lockdown in Melbourne, which is now the most locked down city in the world, his comments were “out of line”.

“While I understand your anger at the situation back home, you are out of line directing it at this person,” she said.

“I am so sorry you have lost loved ones as many of us have during this time. However I think you will find Natalie not accepting this opportunity and staying at home not making an income doesn’t solve anything?

“Her kids are almost at an age where they can read these comments and for that alone, I’d say you don’t give a damn about mental health or compassion, or you wouldn’t be calling people names in the comments sections. Really odd. Side note, what’s even more crushing is that this post was and this celebration you witness is actually in memory of someone we all lost and miss. Steve Price, I do not wish to argue with you or upset you, I do wish you nothing but the best during these really challenging, soul testing times. X.”
