Sacha Baron Cohen returned to Moore Park’s Entertainment Quarter on Saturday night where he made a surprise appearance as Borat.
The Hollywood actor reprised the iconic role on stage, much to the delight of an unsuspecting crowd as part of The Comedy Festival showcase.
“He was a surprise guest at the end of the showcase,” one onlooker said.
“There were about 100 people in there. They’re trying something new.”
Guests were instructed to place their phones inside locked pouches to prevent any footage from being captured.
“Everyone had to put their phone into one of their locked pouches and then he came out as a ‘surprise guest’ as the third performer in full Ali G get up,” a source previously said.
“He did the 6:30pm and 9:15pm shows. He had everyone in stitches.”
The actor moved from the US to Australia last year with his wife Isla Fisher and their three children – Olive, 12, Elula, nine, and Montgomery, five.
He previously applauded Australia’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic and said more celebrities are relocating because they feel “safe”.
“I think there’s more and more filming coming here because it’s safe right?” he told ABC Newsbreakfast last year.
“You’re one of the few countries in the world that really... the politicians stepped aside, whatever you want to think about the politicians, and said, ‘Okay, let’s let the scientists you know run this show’.
“It’s been amazingly effective. I really hope it continues.”
