Actor and model Josh Heuston became an international celebrity overnight thanks to Netflix’s reboot of Heartbreak High and he has revealed there were counsellors on hand to help with his sudden fame.

When released in September, the show became one of Netflix’s most-watched shows globally in a matter of days and made instant stars of it’s relatively unknown cast.

“We were given access to counselling, which is great,” Heuston said.

“Especially considering it’s a cast of young adults who were suddenly thrown into the spotlight.”

While the 26-year-old said Heartbreak High fans had been “nothing but nice” to him, the sudden attention of his personal life has been challenging.

Heuston is dating Melbourne-born Sydney-based model and DJ Carla Martinez

“Anything personal I keep offline,” he said. “It’s probably best to keep something to yourself considering the rest of (my) life is on show.”

However the attention has opened up doors for Heuston, who is set to film season two of Heartbreak High this month.

The model-turned-actor has been jetting between Sydney and Hungary’s capital city of Budapest for the past few months, after being cast in one of Hollywood’s buzziest new projects: the upcoming HBO Max series Dune: The Sisterhood.

He’s also partnered with Heineken ahead of the 2023 F1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix in April. Heuston attended the brand’s Westfield Parramatta activation on Friday to launch Heineken’s Player 0.0 simulation racing tournament.

Heuston has been a fan of the F1 since he saw Lewis Hamilton in conversation with Tommy Hilfiger in London in 2018.

Heuston, who has modelled for the American brand, said he’s been impressed how the sport combines the worlds of fashion, music and entertainment to grow it’s fanbase.

“Heartbreak High opened doors for all of us and definitely changed the calibre of roles you can go for,” said Heuston.

“I get to do something I haven’t stopped doing since I was a kid, which is dressing up and sword fighting, but now people don’t think I’m crazy. ”
