Have supermodel Elle Macpherson and anti-vaxxer Andrew Wakefield split?

Has Elle Macpherson’s run of romantic bad luck struck again? The supermodel says she is “realigning” with her values at a wellness retreat.

Elle Macpherson's anti vaxxer ties deepen

Is the fairytale over for supermodel Elle “The Body” Macpherson and controversial former doctor and anti-vaxxer Andrew Wakefield?

The once smitten couple, who found love in 2017, appear to be leading separate lives three years after they first went public with their romance at a farmer’s market in Miami.

While there was speculation last year that a wedding could be on the cards following Wakefield’s divorce from his wife of 32 years Carmel Wakefield, Macpherson, 56, hasn’t been seen with Wakefield, 64, since October last year.

The pair stepped out at an anti-vaxxer campaign event in North Carolina, where Wakefield took to the stage and introduced Macpherson as “Elle Macpherson, my girlfriend”.

Five months on, the wellness entrepreneur, who is a big fan of alternative medicine, is based in Florida and recently spent Valentine’s Day with her sons Flynn, 23, and Aurelius Cy, 18, while Wakefield is said to be living in Texas.

Macpherson shares her sons with her former partner, French financier Arpad Busson while Wakefield shares four adult children with Carmel.

When asked whether Macpherson and Wakefield have split, a representative for the model said, “I’m not aware of anything. Elle is a very private person,” he said.

Meanwhile, a representative for Wakefield told Confidential, “He rarely answers press enquiries from mainstream news publications and doesn’t comment on his private life.”

Macpherson’s relationship with Wakefield has been under scrutiny for several years due to him being a driving force of the anti-vaxxer movement.

In 2010, the former British doctor was banned from practising medicine by the British General Medical Council after his research paper linking mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine to autism was retracted by medical journal The Lancet.

Last year, Wakefield shared eyebrow-raising views about fast-tracked vaccines for COVID-19.

“[I’m] absolutely terrified. Circumventing the laboratory testing, animal testing and putting it straight into humans. Then you see in one of the trials, 20 per cent serious adverse reaction rate in the high dose group, in a perfectly healthy individual – someone who was precisely chosen because they were in such good health – has a serious adverse reaction and they say ‘great’ and that’s encouraging and the stockmarket of that company goes through the ceiling,” he told London Reel, a website that has been criticised for peddling conspiracy theories in the past.

“There is a silver lining to this COVID-19 event and that is that it has awakened a lot of people, not everybody by any means but a lot of people have said ‘hang on, there’s something wrong here. Something doesn’t add up, something doesn’t make sense.”

Macpherson retreated to Arizona last week on an “Eat, Pray, Love”-inspired trip and shared a cryptic message with her Instagram followers.

“No looking back … Arizona has always been a place of healing for me . a time to reset, rediscover, repose, realign with my authentic truth and values – I’m so deeply grateful for Mother Nature and all her beauty and her healing power. @welleco,” Macpherson wrote.

The couple have been the subject of tabloid columns since confirming their romance in 2018 and have been pictured together on various public outings from casual lunch dates to black tie events, including at Doctors Who Rock, which recognises “integrative medicine” and has previously honoured members of the anti-vaxxer community.

She found love with Wakefield after separating from her billionaire ex-husband Jeffrey Soffer.

She was also once married to French photographer Gilles Bensimon following their wedding in 1986 but they divorced three years later.
