Australian model-on-the-rise Hannah Wick is following a far-from-typical path to the top.

Just one year after breaking into modelling, the 24-year-old Sydneysider has won international campaigns, including being cast to walk in the coveted Dior show at Paris Fashion Week.

Wick, who was scouted on a Sydney street in 2017 but only officially signed with agency Chic Management the following year, this week stormed the runway for the luxury fashion house in Paris alongside fellow Aussie Adut Akech, who started her climb up the fashion ranks when she was 16.

“I think I have made it here so quickly because I have had key people who have really believed in me and have really pushed for me to do well,” Wick told Sunday Confidential from Paris on Saturday.

“I think that’s how I was able to ascend so quickly, because I had that support behind me. Otherwise I don’t know. A bit of luck maybe. Right place right time.”

Wick believes the key to being so in demand is because the industry is being more accepting of models with diverse backgrounds.

“There are definitely older models being picked up, as are South Asian models,” Wick, who is half Sri Lankan, said.

Wick is half-Sri Lankan and believes being from a diverse background has added to her success.

As for her Dior gig, which ranks as her biggest yet, Wick said it was a “pinch me moment”.

“Dior was super exciting,” she said.

“I told my parents and they were so excited and they told my grandma.

“I travelled from London to Paris for the show. The show was at the Rodin Museum and they had set-up this huge runway and inside there were really white lights with geometric shapes.

“It was exciting and adrenaline pumping.

“I am so, so grateful for Dior choosing me to be in their show. It was an incredible show.”

Wick is also completing her psychology degree.

“When I am not modelling I am studying or hanging out with my friends in London,” she said. “At this point modelling is taking up a lot of my life. But I make sure to focus on my study.”
