It is only the beginning for American singer Dasha.
Blowing up globally with her radio hit that went viral on TikTok, Austin, the 24-year-old is in Australia for her first ever visit thanks to the huge success of the song.
“It is wild how fast s**t is moving in my career, it is just wild,” Dasha told The Daily Telegraph.
“I feel like I am on a rocket ship hanging on for dear life but I am really glad to be on the rocket ship.”
Austin is based on Dasha’s own life, telling of her move to LA and leaving her “drunken, washed up” ex in Texas. It is from her album, What Happens Now? that was released in February.
Dasha landed in Sydney early on Tuesday after a 17 hour flight from Dallas.
Showing no sign of jet lag, she was straight into promo and performed at an industry gig for her local record label, Warner Music Australia.
“It is the only thing I’ve ever chased after for a career and so for it to pan out when I’m 24 and for a lot of people it never does,” the singer, born Anna Dasha Novotny, said.
“I just feel really grateful for this opportunity in that I stuck with my gut feeling of I know that the music I make is going to reach the people it needs to reach and it is cool because it is just the beginning and I am already here in Australia talking to people and going to Europe and stuff.”
Dasha’s new track, Didn’t I, is out now.
While not playing any full gigs this time, Dasha is working on scheduling Australian dates as soon as possible.
With her blonde hair and pop country sensibilities, Dasha is regularly compared to superstar Taylor Swift.
“I’ve been told that probably once a day since I was 10-year’s old,” she said. “I tis a lot but also Taylor is the reason I started songwriting and she inspired so much of my music and she is gorgeous so I do not mind one bit. I think it is the coolest thing ever.”
