It would seem drugs and alcohol use is rife within the hairdressing industry.
A well-known Australian hair specialist has been laughed at by a group of 500 colleagues after revealing he won’t allow drugs or alcohol in his workplace.
Salon HER’s Michael Kelly, who is known for tending to the tresses of well-heeled eastern suburbs types including Lou O’Neill, Bernadette Fahey, Brooke Testini and Julia Stone, took to the stage at an industry conference, where he revealed he has a zero-tolerance policy for drug and alcohol use.
He was laughed at, and took to social media this week to reveal the crowd’s reaction and double down on his policy.
“Times are changing and I know this sentiment is shared by many and rejected by many, but I chose to share my POV to 500 business owners, suppliers, salon managers, creatives in leadership roles and this video shows the surprise by my comment,” Kelly wrote.
“Controversial Opinion: Drugs use and excessive alcohol in your place of work is eroding your culture and ultimately costing you the future value of your team.”
