HE may not have planned it but Guy Sebastian concedes his new single couldn’t have come at more poignant time.
The track, Bloodstone, is a celebration of love, in all of its varieties and is released days ahead of the marriage equality vote in Australia.
“It is about fighting for all sorts of love in all shapes and sizes,” Sebastian told Confidential.
“Finally we are seeing some sort of gain with basic human rights. It is not just about fighting for individual rights, it is about love in general.”
The Bloodstone video clip features same sex and straight couples side-by-side.
Sebastian was brought up Christian and remains committed to his faith.
“It is a very complex, layered issue I am not going to pretend to be an expert on,” the father of two said of his religious beliefs.
“My whole thing is you can’t pick and choose what things in the Bible are more important than others. You can’t ignore some Bible verses but say others hold true.
“I think people hide behind religion sometimes based on their own prejudices so I just have to go with my gut and I think God is love.”

Bloodstone is the new single from Sebastian’s album, Conscious, that is released next Friday.
He is hitting the road for a national tour to support the album, starting in Brisbane on Thursday and playing Sydney’s Enmore Theatre next Friday and the Newcastle Civic Theatre the following night.
“To re-create this album live is probably one of the funnest things that I have done on a touring level,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sebastian is one of many high profile artists to support the Sony Foundation’s annual Wharf4Ward fundraising event that will be held at Sydney’s Woolloomooloo Wharf today.
“Wharf4Ward do some incredible things,” Sebastian said of the event that raises money for youth charities.
