You’ve got to be a big fan of someone to have them inked on your body forever.
Sydney Uni student Natalia Hefferan was so impressed by former Australian of the Year Grace Tame and her side eye incident with Prime Minister Scott Morrison that she has a permanent reminder tattooed on her body.
Celebrity tattoo artist Lauren Winzer, whose clients include Miley Cyrus, Post Malone, Toni Collette and Sophie Turner, created the piece for Hefferan last month.
“It was a moment in history where usually in the past women are told to be polite, to smile and this for me and many of my friends was a defining moment where we didn’t have to respect someone who we feel doesn’t respect us,” Hefferan said when contacted.
“It is a strong message that you don’t have to be nice to someone just because society tells you to do so."
Tame of course made international headlines in January when she gave the PM the cold shoulder as she was snapped at The Lodge in Canberra for a morning tea ahead of the Australian of the Year Awards.
Media captured the frosty exchange as Tame and fiance Max Heerey were greeted by the PM and wife Jenny.
Tame, who has a number of quirky tattoos herself, has staunchly defend the exchange with the PM despite public criticism.
She claimed she wouldn’t “compromise her principles” by acting differently.
Big fan Hefferan studies social work and criminology.
She is also a supporter of former political staffer Brittany Higgins, whose case of alleged sexual assault at Parliament House Canberra sparked national debate and exposed a culture of cover ups in federal politics.
She opted to have the tattoo placed on her bottom.
She said she felt the positioning “added to the message”.
Winzer meanwhile said it was an honour to do the piece.
“Every tattoo I do is super cool but this one was very powerful because I stand by Grace and her beliefs strongly,” Winzer told Confidential.
“To get to do this tattoo on another powerful female felt like I was able to be part of that ‘girl power’ in a way.”
