‘God on my side’: Iconic US actor’s big Trump call during Aussie trip

Antonio Sabato Jr has spoken of being ‘black-listed’ by Hollywood when he supported Donald Trump in his 2016 US Presidential run. In Australia, the model and actor says he will not stop speaking his mind.

Antonio Sabato Jr says he won’t stop speaking his mind after being “black-listed” by Hollywood for supporting former US President Donald Trump.

The former Calvin Klein model was one of the few actors that supported Trump in the 2016 US Presidential election. His support, he claimed, stymied his career.

“I’ve been to hell and back, I have god on my side,” Sabato Jr told The Daily Telegraph.

“I tell myself, ‘be as honest as you can, come from a place of love and speak your mind’.

If I can’t at 52-years-old be myself, then what is the point of living. If we find a disagreement, we could also find an agreement so we’ve got to be able to talk about things and discuss things.

“I am always going to speak my mind and if people don’t like it, so be it. After all, we’ve all got opinions.”

Sabato Jr is back acting and is in Australia to appear at Supanova Comic Con fan events in Melbourne and the Gold Coast this month.

His new film, Grace By Night, is released next month. He has also voiced one of the leads in animated feature DragonMan: The Adventures of Luke Starr.

He believes Trump will be elected President over incumbent Joe Biden and thinks Australia’s relationship with the US will be the better for it.

“My opinion is he is going to be elected in November and I am probably going to vote for him. it is tough to tell because a lot of things are happening on a daily basis as far as the political world (is concerned),” said Sabato Jr, who recently released his book, The Untold Story.

“During the four years that Trump was in office, our country was doing a lot better,” he said.

“We didn’t have any wars, our border was closed, our economy was good, our military was happy, our law enforcement was happy, they were getting paid, our gas prices were lower, people were able to buy a piece of steak without selling their home. So looking at that, he did a good job.

“I look at it as a business because running a country is a business, you’ve got to look at all kinds of things and you’ve got to make sure that the country is building itself up, not deteriorating.

“What I am hoping is that when or if he gets in office, good things are happening.

As much as his acting, Sabato Jr would be known for his ripped physique fronting Calvin Klein’s men’s underwear campaigns for three consecutive years in the 90s.

He also appeared in Janet Jackson’s video clip for her track Love Will Never Do.

“I have been training my whole life, I am probably better and stronger now than ever before,” he said. “I am very much set in my life. I have to work out at least four hours a day, I workout seven days a week. I kill myself and I need it. It is not a matter of doing it for my job or my career, I am doing it for me.”
