An Instagram post from English DJ Fred Again has sent Sydneysiders into a frenzy.
The last minute announcement of a secret show at the Sydney Opera House has left fans scrambling for tickets for the venue that seats just 2500 people.
The announcement to his 2.3 million Instagram followers resulted in the Opera House website crashing.
Two hours after he posted, some 120,000 people were in the online queue to buy tickets for the surprise gig.
Less than 24 hours earlier, he shared a series of Instagram stories teasing the shows.
The first post read: “Okay, we’re getting on a flight now and when we land we’re gonna play some shows.”
He went on to detail each step of the trip.
“I’ve been so excited about this for months,” he wrote. “The squad is assembling. Australia!!!!! We here! Sydney Opera House tonight!!!”
The 30-year-old continued: “ok sydney opera house tonight. this show genuinely is super last minute. So we’re super gassed to be able to do it at all! and the orchestra is rehearsing until 6pm today! and this is theirrrr house of course lol. so we’re doing a REAL stripped version of the show cos we’ve only got 2 hours to build it! no lights. one small screen. me. tony. and maybe the most beautiful venue in the world.”
Fred Again last visited Australia in 2023 when he played Laneway Festival and a series of sideshows.
Born Frederick John Philip Gibson, he is the son of barrister Charles Gibson KC and Mary Ann Frances, whose great grandfather is Anglo Irish aristocrat, Shane Baron O’Neil (3rd Baron O’Neill).
He has two Grammy Awards to his name and co-wrote George Ezra’s global hit Shotgun.
