Australia’s most recognised sartorial stars put their best fashion feet forward on Tuesday night at the country’s most prestigious fashion awards.
Designers, models and industry stars walked the red carpet at the Australian Fashion Laureate at the State Theatre to honour individuals who have made a significant contribution to the growth, development and global promotion of the local industry.
Fresh off the Victoria’s Secret catwalk, Kiwi beauty Georgia Fowler hosted the awards, which began in 2008, alongside comedian Ash Williams.

“I am excited to be back in Sydney for The Laureate,” Fowler told Confidential.
“The Australian industry really supports one another, even when you are overseas Australians stick together.”
Her fellow VS angel Duckie Thot was also in attendance, as was international model-on-the-rise Adut Akech Bior who took home the prized Model of The Year award.
It’s been a huge year for the 18-year-old who was raised in a Kenyan refugee camp before moving to Adelaide when she was six. Now she’s gracing the catwalks of Dior, Valentino and Chanel, including being hand-picked by Karl Lagerfeld to be the Chanel bride at Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture in July.
“I never thought I would be doing all of this at 18,” she said. “I’m really grateful for every opportunity and everyone who has supported me and I’m just going to have to keep pushing.”
The honour was presented to her by Cheyenne Tozzi who walked the red carpet just three months after giving birth to her first child.
“It's a big thing these days to have a night out,” the 29-year-old said of her new role as mum to Dahlia de la Lune with partner Marlon Teixeira.
“It’s an important night to recognise Australian fashion on the global scene. I think we have amazing Australian designers and models included into the mix which I’m so chuffed to introduce.
“It’s so relevant these days because Australian girls are really taking over the fashion world like our designers are,” she said, “so it’s nice for them to be recognised back at home among peers.
Winners were nominated and chosen by a voting panel of more than 30 industry leaders, including designers, media, buyers, creatives, brand executives and communications professionals, called the Australian Fashion Industry Alumni.
Romance Was Born won Best Australian Womenswear, while Song For The Mute won Best Menswear.
Albus Lumen took home the Emerging Designer gong while celebrity favourite label Zimmerman was awarded the Best Australian Retailer honour.
The international impact honouree went to photographer Russell James.
