She may have a wedding to plan, but with more than one in five Australians facing food insecurity each year, engaged model Erin Holland is focusing on giving back by taking part in a campaign to combat hunger.

With more than one in five Australians facing food insecurity each year, model Erin Holland is using her star power to give back to those in need. The TV presenter has teamed up with Subway restaurants and Foodbank Australia to combat hunger.

She told Confidential her life in the spotlight had inspired her philanthropy.

“It’s incredibly important (to give back). If you’re lucky enough to have a platform, then I really think we should be doing something with it,” she said. “I’ve been involved with this campaign for the second year now and Foodbank just do such a wonderful thing for combating hunger in Australia.

“It’s becoming an epidemic which is a shame. The statistics show 50 per cent more women are affected, which is really close to home … It’s a staggering statistic and a surprising one. I think of Australia as very much a first-world country. You sort of tend to forget that it happens in our own backyard.”

Holland, 30, officially launched World Sandwich Day to be held on November 1. For every sub purchased on this day, Subway will donate a meal to those seeking hunger relief, through Foodbank Australia.

“This is such an easy way for people to give back. We all eat lunch, we all eat dinner or breakfast so I just think a campaign like this is so simple to get involved in,” she said.

When she’s not focused on charity work, Holland is planning her wedding to cricketer Ben Cutting, 32.

The couple announced their engagement earlier this year after four years of dating and they are set to marry next year.

“We’ve done a few little bits and pieces,” she said. “I’m not the kind of girl who grew up imagining what my wedding would be like … so it’s been a process and I’ve got some amazing people helping me.”
