A wealthy entrepreneur who built a deck at his multimillion-dollar harbourfront mansion may be asked to tear it down.
Sunday Confidential has previously revealed Gabriel Jakob built a massive 18 metre by five-metre deck at the back of his Wolseley Road, Point Piper property late last year prior to receiving DA approval.
At the time, Jakob fought back, claiming he had done nothing wrong, despite Woollahra Council issuing him with a Development Without Consent (DWC) notice.
It is believed Jakob has told council he has simply replaced a decaying deck structure adjoining the pool with a new one, which he said didn’t require any approval.
Now, Woollahra Council has deemed the deck “unlawful” and that it proposes to order the mysterious millionaire to pull it down.
“Woollahra Council deemed a deck installed at Wolseley Road Point Piper was unlawful under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act,” a spokesman said.
“A notice of a proposed order for demolition of the deck has been issued by Council.
“The owner of the property is entitled to make representations to Council as to why the order should not be issued, or can request that the order’s terms of compliance be modified.”
Sunday Confidential contacted Jakob for comment on Saturday.
Jakob’s spokesperson refuted the letter had been sent yesterday and said, “A submission was lodged in response to council’s notice in the time required which asserted that the works were not unlawful and council have not since acted on their notice by issuing an order.”
“A development application will be submitted next week.”
The deck, which had been built at his Wolseley Road, Point Piper mansion, angered some locals residents on Australia’s most expensive street, prompting them to contact local council.
At the time, Jakob reportedly told council he has simply replaced a decaying deck structure adjoining the pool with a new one, which does not require any DA.
Council records show there hasn’t been a DA application for the property since 2018.
In January Confidential revealed that Jakob angered neighbours after they claimed paint gushed from his home into the street and out into Sydney Harbour.
Neighbours of the millionaire entrepreneur Gabriel Jakob contacted Woollahra Council to alert it white paint was spilling from a Point Piper property in an incident being blamed on a tradie.
Woollahra Council sent rangers to Mr Jakob’s home and said: “Council’s regulatory and compliance staff attended the site immediately to take photographs and interview contractors on site,” the council said.
Jakob said the incident was not due to the wrongdoing of any of his contractors.
“Gabriel’s builder has confirmed that the contractor in question is not one of Gabriel’s,” they said.
“The contractor had parked at number 42 in error, spilled the paint off the back of the van, panicked and tried to wash it away. He has confirmed the contractor’s details to the council who will investigate further.
“Any action on Gabriel and he will counterclaim.”
Jakob’s deck stoush comes as his ex-wife, Alexandra Jakob, the founder of Bondi Boost and the Little Learning childcare chain, listed her three-level, five-bedroom, home in the affluent Sydney suburb of Point Piper with $100m hopes — more than double what she paid for it five years ago.
Ms Jakob bought her first childcare centre in 2006 and sold it for $150m to Bain Capital in 2018.
