Cronulla cafe Miss Jaffles voted best jaffles in Australia

With more than 15 different jaffles on the menu, a cafe in Cronulla that only opened in July has taken out a big gong.

With more than 15 different jaffles on the menu, including a decadent dessert jaffle made from biscoff, a cafe in Cronulla that only opened its doors in July has been voted the best place in Australia for jaffles.

Miss Jaffles beat out 10 other finalists to be announced the winner of Wotif’s Uniquely Aussie Awards in the jaffles category.

Owners Michelle Weir and Vaseliki Vais, who worked in a cafe together, decided to branch out on their own and specialise in the humble toastie after bonding over its brilliance at work.

“We are in our 30s so we grew up with throwing leftovers in the jaffle and that was a meal,” Weir said.

“We have vivid memories of jaffles but they started to go out of fashion.

Adds Vais, “It got to the stage in our last job where the younger staff had no idea what one was, so we decided we had to teach people what a jaffle is.”

Of the 15 jaffles they have on the menu the Miss Hangover, which combines bacon, egg, hash brown, caramelised onion, cheese and sauce, is the most popular savoury option.

On the sweeter side of things, the combination of Caramilk, biscoff, strawberries and ice cream in the Miss Biscoff is the winner.

The awards aim to celebrates the best local secrets as nominated by Aussies.

Over thousands of people voted in the awards, which also declared NSW’s Beechwood Hotel the best country pub.

Meanwhile best vanilla slice went south of the border to the Bridgewater Bakehouse in Bendigo and the best hot chip was awarded to Adelaide’s Chicken Chef.
