Chris Hemsworth is making the most of family time with his mini-mes after he was given a heartbreaking medical warning.
The Aussie actor was spotted on a surfing trip in Byron Bay with his 8-year-old twins Sasha and Tristan late on Sunday afternoon.
Hemsworth said his “biggest fear” was realised when a series of genetic tests confirmed he has an increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
After hearing the shocking news, the 39-year-old revealed he is taking an indefinite break from work to focus on himself and spend time with wife, Elsa Pataky, 46, twins, and 10-year-old daughter India.
Hemsworth took the tests as part of his new docu-series Limitless, where he pushes himself to physical extremes to learn more about health.
The project has had a clear impact on his physique, as Hemsworth showed off his toned physique and biceps while lifting his sons into the back of a Ute.
The Marvel star seems noticeably bulkier than when he was last spotted surfing in Byron in October.
“It really triggered something in me to want to take some time off,” he said. “I’m going home and I’m going to have a good chunk of time off and just simplify. Be with the kids, be with my wife,” he told Vanity Fair.
Hemsworth learned he has two copies of the APOE4 gene, meaning he is 10 times more likely to get the degenerative disease. Dementia runs in the family, he explained, adding that his grandfather is succumbing to the illness.
He strolled to the surf wearing a pair of cargo board shorts and long sleeve wetsuit top, carrying an Emery surfboard under each arm.
After catching some waves with his sons, Hemsworth dried off with a sandy towel, and changed into a loose-fitting white T-shirt and discreet black cap.
He said thanks to the research, he is doing everything in his power to stay in top shape: “It’s all about sleep management, stress management, nutrition, movement, fitness. It’s all kind of the same tools that need to be applied in a consistent way.”
