Tradie Adam Dovile is just over a week out from making his Dancing With The Stars debut. Will the Better Homes and Gardens DIY presenter be a fish out of water or a dark horse?

Celeb tradie Adam Dovile sees himself as more of a fish out of water than a dark horse on the dance floor.

It is just over a week out from the 40-year-old father of two making his mirror ball debut on the new season of Dancing With The Stars.

“I was definitely out of my comfort zone,” Dovile told Confidential.

“I like obviously to have a good time but the only dancing that I have done, I like to call it the European two-step. I am allowed to say that, I am Italian, but basically that is me throwing my hands up in the air and stepping back and forth. It was a bit of a learning curve.”

Dovile is one of 12 contestants to compete on the reality series that will premiere on Seven on Sunday, July 7.

The Better Homes and Gardens DIY presenter’s competition includes Julie Goodwin, Ant Middleton, Lisa McCune and Ben Cousins.

Contestants spent two months in rigorous training to get their skills up ahead of filming.

“It was brutal,” Dovile said. “In two months, I’ve basically had two months off. Apart from that I was training five to eight hours a day plus recording (Better Homes and Gardens). I was leaner than a lean piece of meat, let’s put it that way.”

The loveable builder won the Best New Talent Logie Award in 2016 and still runs his own construction business.

He was reluctant to distinguish which is harder – construction or dancing.

“It is a different kind of hard,” he said. “Anything from dancing, you would not relate back on to a construction site, you really wouldn’t.

It was so strange, so different, but I’ve got to say, I had a great time. It is good to challenge yourself in life and try things you wouldn’t usually try.”

Dovile’s first reaction when asked to take part in the show was no.

“Why would I want to go on national TV and dance and look like an absolute Muppet?” he laughed.

“But after speaking to my wife and my little girls … that is what got me over the line. Life is too short and I am glad I’ve put myself out there.”
