Carrie Bickmore’s job is safe: Ten

Lisa Wilkinson has announced she is leaving Channel Nine to work for The Project on Network Ten. But don’t they already have a host?

LISA Wilkinson’s signing to The Project will not impact Carrie Bickmore’s job on the flagship show, the program’s executive producer says.

Wilkinson yesterday announced she’d defected from Channel Nine’s Today show to joins the Ten Network on a number of projects, including hosting The Project’s new Sunday night show.

Bickmore will continue to host The Project weekdays with Waleed Aly and Pete Helliar.

“Lisa will be hosting our new Sunday edition of the show and joining the program during the week to share her expertise and insights with Carrie, Waleed and Pete (Helliar),” The Project executive producer Craig Campbell said.

“I believe our trio is already the best on TV and they are excited to have the chance to play alongside Lisa.”

Wilkinson’s announcement raised speculation over Bickmore’s role on the show, which prompted Mr Campbell’s statement.

The weeknight Project episodes will continue to be shot in Melbourne, while the Sunday edition is being filmed at Channel Ten’s Pyrmont headquarters in Sydney.

With Wilkinson based in Sydney, she will fly to and from Melbourne as needed for her appearances on the weekly show.

“We couldn’t imagine how our team could have gotten any better until now,” Mr Campbell said.

“Carrie is contracted to host the show four days a week and that role won’t change.

“She has been here since day one and has led The Project all the way to the Gold Logie podium. Having these two strong, intelligent and independent women, both at the top of their game, on our team is a privilege.”

Earlier today, Bickmore took to social media to congratulate Wilkinson on the news.

“All class Lisa,” she wrote. “Congrats on an incredible stint at Today babe. Hope you enjoyed your sleep in and can’t wait to see your beaming face on @theprojecttv soon.”
