Bondi Beach and The Iconic to host world’s first fashion parade showcasing 2017 swimwear

BIKINIS will be even more front and centre than usual on Australia’s most famous strip of sand tomorrow, when the world-famous Bondi Beach transforms into a runway.

BIKINIS will be even more front and centre than usual on Australia’s most famous strip of sand tomorrow, when the world-famous Bondi Beach transforms into a runway.

The day before summer officially arrives, online retailer The Iconic will stage the world’s first fashion show on the beach to showcase its 2017 swimwear collections from designers including Bec & Bridge, Tigerlily, Seafolly, Tony Bianco and Camilla.

Kaftan queen Camilla Franks, whose designs have been stocked by the online giant since 2014, said she couldn’t wait to see her wares on a runway reflective of their natural habitat — the beach.

“I went to a runway show in the Maldives on the beach years ago, but this is going to be so much more epic because it’s literally on my front door steps with one of Australia’s leading e-commerce sites,” the diminutive designer enthused.

She will attend the show, alongside Bec and Bridge’s Bec Cooper, models Natalie Roser and Niki Phillips and rugby player Nick Cummins.

Franks said the show would be particularly special because of her deep connection to Bondi.

“I feel like I grew up in there, I was always down at North Bondi nippers,” explained Franks.

“My brother was a fairly successful ironman for his age, and although he passed away when I was younger, I have a lot of beautiful memories down at Bondi. It’s kind of a sacred place,” she added.

Last month, Franks’ Bondi Beach store was robbed in the middle of the night, with thieves making off with wares from the high-end brand. It was the fourth time in three years that Franks’ Bondi shopfront has been targeted by robbers.
