For model mum Nikki Phillips, date night is something she has to plan.
With three kids aged under five, Phillips and hubby Dane Rumble got in early for Valentine’s Day this year.
The couple got a babysitter and enjoyed a meal at Alibi Bar & Dining plant-based restaurant at the Ovolo Hotel in Woolloomooloo on Sunday.
“As much as Valentine’s Day will be spent rugged up on the couch watching Beauty and the Beast with popcorn with the kids, it was nice to be able to celebrate just the two of us after being married for 10 years,” Phillips told Confidential.
“Those moments of just Dane and I are very rare these days, so we need to make the most of them when we can.”
The couple chose the plant-based restaurant from chef Shannon Martinez as she is pescetarian, and also enjoyed a couple of cocktails at the boutique hotel bar from award-winning mixologist Andrea Gualdi.
The lunch marked a double celebration: the couple had been unable to do something together on Rumble’s birthday on February 9.
“Valentine’s Day is obviously a day in the calendar that everyone knows but for us, it is about trying to spend time together when we can,” Phillips said. “It sounds cliche but every day is Valentine’s Day.”
THE IDEAL DATE NIGHT FOR SYDNEY’S CELEBS
Model Fiona Falkiner and wife Hayley Willis:
“Our favourite date night spot is getting fish and chips on Dee Why beach. There is a beautiful grass area to sit and enjoy time together. Otherwise, we love a margarita, so Mexicano in Narrabeen is a favourite of ours.”
PR Guru Roxy Jacenko and husband Oliver Curtis:
“Icebergs in Bondi would be my pick for 2023 Valentine’s Day lunch to enjoy the incredible outlook and the new look and feel of such an iconic Sydney venue.”
2GB’S Breakfast Radio Host Ben Fordham and wife Jodie Speers:
“One of our new favourites is The Rice Den in St Leonards. It’s got a cosy atmosphere and every dish is focused on flavour. Jodie and I absolutely love it. It’s run by a lovely family and the service is spot on.”
Fashion influencer Tash Sefton and partner, Adam Genoves:
“Adam and I love Little Felix in the CBD – candlelit lounge vibes that is divinely intimate while transporting us to Paris. We love the apero dinatoire menu – truffle fries, crudo snapper and a towering platter of fromage. Ask for Ollie, he will look after you!”
Influencer Costeen Hatzi and partner Nick Kyrgios
“Sydney has some fantastic restaurants for date nights. Mr. Wongs is a Cantonese restaurant which is the perfect spot for Valentine’s Day. They serve delicious cocktails & Asian fusion dishes. Nobu is another one of my must go to restaurants. Their black miso cod is the best thing on the menu and if you haven’t tried it than this Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to. Spicy tuna & crispy rice is another well-known dish at Nobu. Both spots have a great, intimate atmosphere with a moody jazz feel.”
Artist Charles Billich and wife Christa:
“I’ll engage my full armoury of crayons to update Christa’s beauty. Before I do that, I’ll arrange sashimi, sushi and sardines into a composition of hearts, her favourite breakfast.”
Model Tahlia Giumelli, and husband Tom Burgess
“We love Alphabet St in Cronulla. They serve the best apple martini’s.”
The Rush Hour’s Jude Bolton, and wife Lynette
“We always go to Ichi Ban Boshi in the CBD. it brings back memories of going for Ramen during our first dates in their original restaurant in Bondi.”
