After saying no to I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here! six times, former rugby league star Beau Ryan has finally said yes.

The 36-year-old said the fear of not having enough to eat, gross food challenges and the risk of losing weight kept him out of the reality TV ‘jungle’ camp.

“It is hard for me to gain weight,” he told The Daily Telegraph. “Some people say that is lucky but coming from a rugby league background, your strength and your weight is really everything. Fortunately for me, I don’t need to be too big and too strong doing what I do, I just like to feel good.”

The father of two went into the jungle camp weighing 86kgs and shed several kilograms while recording the show at the end of last year in northern NSW near Byron Bay.

“My wife’s concern was how I’d be if I lost weight, being hangry and losing the plot,” he said, adding that he was also concerned about being away from his family when the show was shot in South Africa.

Being still with his thoughts was also a challenge for the outgoing 36-year-old.

“I am not great with alone time. I like to keep busy with work and family,” he said. “When you are in your own head, me verses me is not a great thing to be honest. You just think about everything, things you’d change. The lack of food and sleep and the anxiety about what was ahead probably made me a lot more emotional than I usually am.”

He joins nine other familiar faces on I’m A Celebrity with chef Poh Ling Yeow and AFL great Nathan Buckley also in the cast.

Ryan also rubbished claims he and Buckley fell out while shooting over who was paid more for the appearance.

While the cast is only being officially released now, rumours last month suggested the pair came to blows with rumours suggesting Buckley was paid $300,000.

Ryan meanwhile is understood to have competed as part of his network salary with Ten as he hosts The Amazing Race Australia and is a regular on Studio 10.

“That one hurt considering they made it about money and a feud between us two,” Ryan said. “I am happy to put that to bed. First of all it is untrue. I got on really well with him and I speak to him probably every day since the jungle. Not one person in there spoke about money that I was aware of even though Bucks probably did get paid the most. I’m used to criticism but that one hurt. I am a lover not a fighter.”
