Ali Oetjen’s Bachelorette series debut flopped in the wake of Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins disappointing series ending on The Bachelor last week.
Oetjen’s turn to find love saw 631,000 viewers tune in nationally across the five city metro markets compared to 951,000 when Sophie Monk made her debut on The Bachelorette last year.
Channel 10 though trumpeted that “The Bachelorette Australia shows strength in key demos” despite the lacklustre start as Oetjen met her male hopefuls all vying for her affections.
Cummins debut of The Bachelor recorded an audience of 940,000 viewers just a few months ago but the series finale sparked national outrage when the former rugby player failed to choose a winner and fled to Papua New Guinea to avoid any fallout.

Oetjen meanwhile is somewhat of a reality TV regular, having appeared as a contestant on the first series of The Bachelor and then subsequently on this years Bachelor In Paradise.
“I’m 32, unmarried and don’t have any kids,” Oetjen told Confidential when announced as the new Bachelorette earlier this year. “My parents are people I really look up to and I really want that partnership to spend my life with … and I really want kids. I will have the best opportunity to pick wisely because I am going to have a range of beautiful Australian men to pick from.”
