He may appear to have the perfect life, yet Thomas Malucelli knows too well what rock bottom looks and feels like.
That’s why the former Bachelor star has committed to a cold shower every morning for the month of October, or Ducktober.
“I used to suffer from anxiety and depression, it got to a point back in the day from partying every single weekend that I hit rock bottom,” Malucelli told The Daily Telegraph.
“Rock bottom to me looked like not being able to get out of bed. Eventually, when I did get out of bed, I looked in the mirror and saw this reflection of a man ... I had poor posture, I’d lost my muscle, I had big bags under my eyes. It has been a process and I am finally at a point where I love myself.”
Malucelli, 36, rose to national fame as one of three Bachelor’s on the reality dating show earlier this year.
Seven years prior, Malucelli was at his lowest, which is why the wellness advocate and model is doing his bit for Ducktober now.
Ducktober is held annually in October for what is Mental Health Month. Punters are challenged to immerse themselves in cold water to improve their mental health while raising money for Waves of Wellness (WOW) surf therapy programs.
“People think I have a perfect life, a good body and whatever but in reality I battled several demons,” he explained. “Still every day, I have practices that enable me to be the best version of myself.”
As for his love life, Malucelli is single.
“I am single and failing to mingle right now,” he laughed.
“At the moment I am dating so I am finding my partner in crime. I am hoping that by the end of this year I will find someone because I am really ready.
“I am looking for someone who really values their health and wellness like myself … someone who wants to get the most out of life, who wants to travel, wants to experience life, wants to start a family.
“I have been through a healing stage and I realise I had lots of stuff from my past that I had to heal. I’ve been there, I’ve done the work and I just really want to find somebody who is aligned to the person that I am.”
