Australian athletes to wear Jockey underwear at 2021 Tokyo Olympics

Some are used to parading around in their cozzies, but that doesn’t mean our Olympians have a natural advantage when it comes to posing in their underwear.

Champion swimmers Cameron McEvoy and Ellie Cole are used to parading around half naked in cozzies, but that doesn’t mean they had a natural advantage when it comes to stripping down and posing in underwear.

The duo, along with Olympic slalom canoeist Jessica Fox and Paralympic tennis player Heath Davidson are ambassadors for Jockey, which has officially been announced as the underwear brand of the Australian Olympic and Paralympic teams bound for Tokyo in July.

“I’ve been on TV in front of millions of people in racing swimmers that are skin-tight, so I was able to survive. Although the industry trick is for the men to put bread down there to smooth out the front. I definitely wasn’t prepared for that,” McEvoy, a Bronze Olympic medallist, told The Daily Telegraph.

Adds six-time Gold medal winning Paralympian Cole, “I have been walking around in swimmers more often than regular clothing since 1994. Jockey is a fantastic brand for promoting real bodies. Our Paralympic athletes were so excited to be involved and to celebrate that no two bodies are the same.”

Fox, a silver Olympic medallist, joked to prepare for the shoot she “made sure I did lots of mirror posing, tensing practice and wedgie picking.”

While Davidson, a Gold medallist, added being comfortable in his own skin helped on set. “[I] didn’t mind getting the rig out and putting on a show.”

Jockey’s Divisional Manager Kelly Warwick said while it might seem odd for the brand to partner with the teams considering no one sees the product, but they were proud of the alignment.

“The athletes will wear Jockey underwear as they achieve their Olympic greatness. Jockey is behind the scenes supporting them literally and that’s just what we do,” she said.
