Chart topping British band Rudimental will try out new music when they play a series of Australian gigs over the coming week.

The drum and bass outfit will headline the Australian Open’s Finals Festival on Sunday for the Men’s Final and a sold out show at Sydney’s Metro Theatre on Tuesday.

It is their first live shows in Australia since before the global pandemic.

They did however play a DJ set at the Sydney Everest Carnival in 2022.

“It is the first tour of the year so we thought we would come out with a bang,” Rudimental’s Piers Aggett told Confidential before boarding his flight to Australia from London.

“We have a new album and new music and later this year we would like to drop a lot more singles. So it is a great time to come out, we are playing the new singles live and people will be hearing unreleased music, which is exciting. I always like to test music out on crowds – you really get to know good or bad feelings and you can take some of those changes you make live and put them back in the record.”

Rudimental – Aggett, Kesi Dryden and Leon ‘Locksmith’ Rolle – are known for huge international hits like Feel The Love, Not Giving In, These Days, and Bloodstream.

They have been busy working on a new album, their fifth overall and follow-up to 2021’s Ground Control, for release later this year.

That may include a collaboration with Australian electronic dance artist of the moment, Luude (real name Christian Benson).

Luude is best known here and overseas for his 2021 version of Colin Hay’s iconic track Down Under.

“We were actually speaking to Luude and talking about a collaboration,” Aggett said. “And even working on a track we haven’t got round to finishing yet. I am a big fan of Luude, he had one of the biggest drum and base records in Down Under and we’ve been speaking to him. That would be a dream collab with us.”

Aggett added: “While we are on tour, we are actually putting out a new song with Tiesto, that is exciting and it is with The Absolutely, who is RAYE’S sister.”
