It is the first big celebrity event of the year – the cast and creatives behind much anticipated new Aussie film, Force of Nature: The Dry 2 have stepped out for its Sydney premiere.
Led by starring actor Eric Bana, director Robert Connolly joined co-stars Deborra-Lee Furness, Jacqueline McKenzie and Robin McLeavy on the black carpet at the Westpac Open Air screening overlooking Sydney Harbour.
“It is an Australian film, made by Australians, starring Australians, set in Australia,” Connolly, who also directed the first film, said. “It is going to be a big year.”
The Dry 2 is the first Australian premiere in what is shaping up to be a bumper year for Aussie movies.
George Miller’s latest Mad Max flick Furiosa is coming out in 2024, as is The Surfer starring Nicolas Cage and Adam Elliot’s stop motion movie, Memoirs of a Snail.
“I’m really excited, there is a big sense of responsibility,” Bana said.
“Rob (Connolly) and I are a bit nervous but we are really excited. We are thrilled with the film and are really looking forward to sharing it with the public.”
The Dry 2 is based on the second book in author Jane Harper’s trilogy based on Federal Agent Aaron Falk.
The film opens in cinemas nationally on February 8 and tells the story of five women who go on a corporate hiking retreat but just four return.
“You’re in for a great ride,” Furness said.
“It keeps you on the edge of your seat.”
McKenzie added: “It is a really good film. And it is beautiful too.”
Others to walk the black carpet include Miranda Tapsell, Jeremey Lindsay-Taylor, Lucy Ansell and Damon Herriman.
