Influencer and “celebrity stylist” Jamie Azzopardi has once again become the talk of Fashion Week and it is for all the wrong reasons.

Despite this year’s event sending a strong message on sustainability and preloved fashion, Azzopardi drew criticism for stepping out in a dress from Shein, a fast fashion giant frequently accused of design theft from small Australian labels.

In a TikTok posted by Pedestrian TV, which has since been deleted, Azzopardi was asked who they thought was the “micro-influencer boss”, essentially an influencer that only wears small lasting trends and fast fashion.

“I love watching Sopha Dopha but I feel like sometimes she doesn’t do fashion the way I do fashion,” Azzopardi said in the video.

That comment didn’t sit well with viewers.

Some were quick to accuse Azzopardi of hypocrisy, pointing out their choice to wear Shein, a label synonymous with overconsumption and unethical practices.

One user commented on the video, “Jamie literally wore a dress from Shein to day two. I don’t think they’re in a position to sit on a high horse about fashion.”

Another user agreed, “This!! So sick of certain people on a high horse because they’re more creative or fashionable than someone else and the audacity to wear shein. It’s astounding.”

When Confidential approached Azzopardi at Carriageworks on Thursday, they repeatedly declined to comment on the Shein dress.

Interestingly enough, at the Karla Špetić show on Wednesday, Azzopardi was spotted by Confidential approaching influencer Sophia Begg (aka Sopha Dopha), after the TikTok clip went viral.

Begg addressed the viral TikTok in a video in her latest GRWM.

“I got named as one of them by someone who wore Shein to Australian Fashion Week, so not sure what that’s about,” she said on Thursday.

Always one to try and have the last word, Azzopardi took to Instagram with a lengthy story on their Instagram that seemingly backtracked on the original comment.

“I think what you’ve said is questionable at best,” they wrote.

Azzopardi has a long history of inserting themself in the conversation.

At Carla Zampatti’s opening show on Monday, they showed up before 5pm for the 6pm runway peacocking with a team of assistants holding up their white gown. They did this for the best part of an hour.

In March last year at Melbourne Fashion Festival, they were caught on video in a public clash with model Paige Montana De Cinque, during which Azzopardi claimed to be the “head of Fashion Week.”

De Cinque, speaking of an incident at Bar Bambi, claimed she and her friends were shoved and yelled at by Azzopardi.

“As a model in the industry I thought this behaviour was a disgusting representation,’’ she said.

“I just feel people should be exposed for how they treat people.”

Azzopardi said they were responding with calm after claiming De Cinque and her friends stole a bottle of alcohol from their booth.

“She’d been asked to move about 50 times,’’ Azzopardi said.

“People who know me know I’m not one to be disrespected, especially while I’m celebrating the end of an amazing week that was Fashion Festival.”

De Cinque denied alcohol was taken, saying she didn’t see anyone with a bottle.“It was someone on a power trip,” she said.

Don’t fall behind, there is still more as our list continues.

Azzopardi sparked chatter as they attended events in March last year, loudly declaring they had to “rush off” to a “fashion emergency” as they were working with Taylor Swift.

Some 20 minutes later, Azzopardi was spotted at another event across town.

On hearing the commentary, Confidential reached out to Swift’s team, who did not comment. A source close to the Bad Blood singer emphatically denied Azzopardi was involved in the tour in any way.

“Not true at all. I promise they did not work with Taylor in any way,” the source said. “There is no one new on the team.”

Azzopardi also declined to comment at the time.

The stylist also suffered another embarrassing moment at last year’s Fashion Week where they were spotted watching the Verner show from the media pit.

They were confined to the area, which is usually reserved for photographers and camera crews, rather than scoring a seat at the event.

For someone who regularly claims to be at the centre of the fashion world, Azzopardi seems to find themselves in headlines for all the wrong reasons, again and again.
