Anti-vax trolls target Kochie after positive Covid test

After testing positive to Covid, Sunrise host David Koch has revealed his wife has enacted some tough house rules - including changing up the couple’s sleeping arrangement.

David Koch says the ‘anti-vaxxers’ have come for him after the popular Sunrise host contracted Covid.

The 66-year-old, who is double vaccinated and boosted, on Monday confirmed to Confidential he was at home isolating with the illness.

“It has not stopped my anti vaxx friends/trolls on social media getting stuck into me going, ‘so much for vaccines, Kochie has got it’,” Koch told Confidential. “It is not really the point. Hopefully a bad head cold is all it affects me. That is the reason you do it. I am married to a nurse so I am in very good hands.”

Koch said he has been regularly trolled by vaccine and lockdown critics through the pandemic as Sunrise has covered the ongoing issue.

“I try and only deal in facts and data and there is some great data coming out now, particularly out of the UK and the US that just puts it beyond any doubt that vaccination is critical in all of this,” Koch said.

“I say to people, if our grandparents took your view now, we would still have polio or measles that could still be affecting our kids. You do it … you take the best advice because you are not just helping you and your kids, you are actually helping generations. We have a generation that has no idea what polio is or what measles is, thank god, and that is because previous generations wiped it out.”

Trolls though don’t phase veteran broadcaster Koch.

“I just say, ‘read the facts, don’t take my word for it,’” Koch explained. “That is why I retweet all of the top epidemiologist. I am not an epidemiologist but I take the advice of the experts and that is all you have got to do.”

Koch does not know where he contracted Covid but said if he was a “betting man” he believes he got it at an event he hosted on Friday, filling in for fellow Sunrise presenter Edwina Bartholomew who is on maternity leave.

He did a RAT on Saturday before attending the Australia Unites broadcast but was feeling “a bit shaggy” on the Sunday morning when he subsequently tested positive.

“There were lots of people all wild taking selfies and that was Friday,” he said. “So testing positive on the Sunday it makes a bit of sense.”

As for isolating at home, Koch said wife Libby had him on a tight leash.

“She has me under very strict conditions,” he said. “She is dosing me up with everything from olive leaf extract through to high performance vitamin C to Codral and saying these are the boundaries that you can walk and can’t walk and you wear a mask so I am very well organised.”

It means separate rooms to sleep for the couple.

“We’ve been married 43 years so that is not unusual,” he said. “People are stunned when I say that but I have to get up at 3.30am every morning. During the week we do sleep in separate rooms. She is a snorer so it is just easier.”
