Former NRL star and boxer Anthony Mundine has announced a surprising new career move.
The triple world champion, 46, has entered the Australian wellness sector as the face of a new high protein shake.
Confidential hears Mundine, who is a devout Muslim, signed a lucrative deal with wellness company IsoWhey to front a marketing campaign for their new Ramadan Shake.
“Inshallah, I hope it makes it easy on me to help me get through Ramadan,” he said.
“I always suffer a little but after a week or so you get used to it. I want everyone to try the IsoWhey Ramadan Shake this Ramadan.
“It will keep me full and help me concentrate through the holy month because it’s extremely high in slow-release protein, fibre from dates and hydration ingredients that help me sustain my energy throughout the day.”
Mundine’s manager would not comment on financial details of the partnership.
The health and wellness sector is a multi-billion dollar industry and is said to be one of the fastest growing markets in Australia.
Mundine’s career pivot comes one year after he announced his retirement from professional sport.
Throughout his retirement, he has been focused on indigenous leadership, specifically helping to provide employment pathways for Aboriginal youth through his Mundine Gosh Management business.
“We’ve still got a lot of work to do. Racism is pretty rife and always will be,” he previously said. “It’s like a blazing fire and all we can do is pour water on it and limit it as much as we can.”
Even in his retirement, Mundine, a prominent anti-vaxxer, continues to court media attention.
Last year he was slapped with a $1000 fine over an alleged Covid breach.
He was allegedly seen entering a Bunnings store in Sydney without a mask.
Police alleged the former sportsman also refused to complete a QR code check-in at the store’s entrance.
After the alleged incident, Mundine was charged with failing to comply with public health order direction during the Delta lockdown.
