ANNABELLE Wallis has jokingly likened The Mummy’s climactic fight scene to a wet t-shirt competition.
Speaking to Confidential in Sydney today, the British actor said: “It was like a wet t-shirt contest in a very strange environment.”
Wallis plays the film’s female heroine alongside action man Tom Cruise, the pair battling evil in the Hollywood blockbuster that opens in cinemas on June 8.
The Mummy is a reboot of the Hollywood franchise that previously starred Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz in the leads.
Russell Crowe joined Cruise, Wallis and co-star Sofia Boutella at the Australian premiere at the State Theatre on Monday night.
“This was immense, just huge on all levels,” explained Wallis. “It was so much fun working with Tom and Russell and (director) Alex (Kurtzman). All our sets were handmade from the ground up in huge aeroplane hangars.
“The size and the scope, the awe and exhilaration you see on our faces is real because we were surrounded by it and only on a film of this size do you get the privilege to do that.”
While Wallis, 32, shows some skin on screen, co-star cruise provides plenty of eye candy for admirers. An early scene features the 54-year-old naked in a morgue.
“I had to compete with his skin, I had to try somewhere,” she said. “
Yes, there is a lot of his skin, which was very interesting on the first few days of filming. I was like, I never thought I’d be in this environment when he wakes up in the morgue and he is a little naked.”
It is a good time for Wallis, who is also currently seen in cinemas in another major Hollywood film, Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, alongside Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law and Eric Bana.
“I am working hard so that I can keep working,” she said. “It is just a real honour and a pleasure.”
