Regardless of what the next few weeks hold, Amy Reeves and Drea Onamade are in this for the long haul.

The Australian Idol favourites are taking nothing for granted as the reality singing competition reaches its pointy end.

They have both however vowed to continue on their music journeys whoever wins the series.

“It is getting to the business end of things and it is getting a lot more serious,” Onamade, 26, a singing teacher, told The Daily Telegraph.

“Even though all of the contestants are still trying to have fun, there is the aspect of competition in there so it is a whole bunch of feelings.

“This is a career changing experience so I really have to be on it.

“Music is definitely going to be a big part of my life (regardless), whether it is performing, writing, speaking about singing, or on the flip side when all is said and done, and I feel like I need to be an adult, I want to go into entertainment law with my law degree. I am in it for the long haul.”

On Monday night, the top eight contestants become six with two eliminations. The season finale is just a couple of weeks away with one singer to follow in the footsteps of previous winners including Guy Sebastian, Casey Donovan and Stan Walker.

Reeves, 25, was working as a retail assistant in Perth before auditioning for the show.

“I feel like it is so easy to get swept up in the sparkle,” she said.

“I think it would be easy for egos to be inflated in this kind of environment and so I think it is really important to be grounded and have your people around you that make you feel like yourself.”
