This is a view of Sydney that hasn’t been seen in 99 years.
The Strand Hotel on William St has opened its newly refurbished rooftop bar, which sits on top of the two-storey hotel and offers unique vistas over the Sydney CBD and Kings Cross.
The bar opening comes after Public Hospitality Group took over the iconic pub and restored it into a 17-bedroom hotel and French Bistro. It’s also the first time in the pub’s almost 100-year history this area has been open to the public.
The group, run by one-time investment banker Jon Adgemis, is transforming old and iconic inner city pubs into multi-level dining, drinking and accommodation experiences.
The group brought on co-founder of cult denim brand Ksubi, George Gorrow, as Creative Director of the hotel and rooftop.
Gorrow said, like a dirty martini, he wants the hotel and its New York-style bar to feel like a classic but with an edgy twist.
The Strand Rooftop is open to guests at the hotel as well as visitors and serves up its signature drinks, the French Tart and Dirty Martini.
While, like the French bistro downstairs, the rooftop menu is inspired by Paris and includes corn gruyere croquettes, charcuterie and cheese with a warm baguette and beef sliders.
At the same time, another Public Hospitality Group project has opened, the Oxford House.
Located on Oxford St in Paddington, the hotel features a swimming pool as well as a new restaurant and bar. The Rose pub next door is also undergoing a transformation.
