Adam Demos has enjoyed an unreal rise to international fame, but the former construction worker is already acutely aware that fame can be fleeting — and he isn’t above getting back to being a tradie.

UnREAL Season 4 Promo

Adam Demos has enjoyed an unreal rise to international fame, but the former construction worker is already acutely aware that fame can be fleeting.

Demos, who has become one of Australia’s hottest acting exports after landing a two season role in US drama Unreal, is yet to announce his next move.

But he’s not above jumping back on the tools if acting doesn’t become the lifelong career he planned on.

“It took me a while to start to get work and keep going, but stuff like Janet King and UnReal goes to prove that if you hang in there it will eventually all work out,” he told Confidential.

“So I just have to keep that faith and fingers crossed it does, otherwise, if I have to pick up a shovel again, I’ll do it. You’ve got to pay your bills you know.”

Demos says his career working in Wollongong as a labourer and demolition worker has been his key to success.

“I think that’s the luckiest thing that’s happened to me, that I had a career before this working in construction and realising acting is a job, but a real job is working 7-5 labouring and stuff like that.
“It’s tough work and so it makes me grateful every single day I’m on set. You’re getting picked up, you’re getting to act, you’re doing something you love and you’re getting paid for it, I wouldn’t change a thing. Construction has been the best upbringing for me ever and I have so much respect for it. All my best mates still do it.”

The 32-year-old knows his next move in the acting game is important, with fans and critics waiting to see how he capitalises on his international platform.

“You do have to be careful. Because it is a career I want to do forever, not just for now, as eager as I am to work, you have to be smart because I want this to be a lifelong career. I’m a worker, I love everything about being on set, but sometimes you have to be strategic.

“My goal is to keep working on cool stuff like that, whether that be home or abroad.”
