DJ Tigerlily says there is so much more to her than being a ‘pretty DJ’
Aussie DJ Tigerlily is not afraid to talk about suicide, bullying, mental health and body image to her 1.2 million followers. The Lifeline ambassador says there is more to her than just being “a pretty DJ”.
Scared of the impact of influencers and pretenders on young women, DJ Tigerlily — aka Dara Hayes — is turning the tables on social media.
The 26-year-old said she feels a responsibility to be real and not just fit the image of a music star.
Unafraid to talk about suicide, bullying, mental health and body image to her 1.2 million followers, the in-demand DJ is also a Lifeline ambassador.
“There is so much more to me, I’m passionate about not being just a pretty DJ,” Hayes told The Daily Telegraph yesterday.
“I think in a landscape that is oversaturated with edited photos and fake stuff … it’s so important to be doing something of substance.

“It’s such a pity to see so many young girls following female role models who present a pretty poor image and don’t think about issues like the environment or bullying or school grades or mental health.
“So many of them only think about physical health in a way that it’s about how you look, not actually about how you are inside. It’s pretty scary.”
After playing two late-night gigs at Schoolies Week on the Gold Coast on Friday and Saturday nights, Hayes was running on just an hour of sleep when she played a breakfast DJ set in Sydney yesterday at a Tommy Hilfiger pop-up store to launch the brand’s new Crest collection.
Her commitment to her craft is all in the hope that she can one day pack away the turntable, buy a farm and open up an animal sanctuary and educational centre where children can learn about the environment and agriculture.
